Somebody call the ASPCA

Somebody call the ASPCA because I JUST saw a bird with those feathers at the zoo the other day. Peep Alicia Keys' replacement album art to replace the (cough) "fan made" (cough) "I Am A Spartan Angel" cover. I'm kind of digging the new cover even though it looks like she is being strangled by some sort of zebra peafowl.

DJ AM's family suing aviation company for his death from drugs

DJ AM's estate is suing Clay Lacy Aviation, the company that chartered the plane that crashed carrying DJ AM and his colleagues. The family alleges wrongful death because "the crash ultimately caused Adam Goldstein's death." The suit states DJ AM began taking various drugs--prescription and street pharmaceuticals--due to emotional distress and burns suffered in the accident. The estate has also filed suit against Lear Jet, Goodyear Tire Co., the travel service that arranged their air travel, and the estates of the two plane pilots who perished in the crash.

DJ AM died of a prescription and cocaine drug overdose more than a year after that fateful plane crash. Reportedly, his body was found in bed with a bag of crack cocaine by his groin and a crack pipe at the ready; he had pill bottles in his kitchen. He had reportedly developed a dependence on benzodiazepines and Xanax due to his anxiety about flying. Friends say the benzos triggered a relapse to his drug of choice: crack cocaine. The question becomes, just how culpable are others for someone's illicit drug use? I also have to ask where was his family and friends while he was using? It seems to me they should have sought to hold someone responsible for the plane crash prior to his death.
I am on the fence about this one; it seems clear to me that doctors and handlers were largely responsible for the deaths of Michael Jackson and Anna Nicole Smith. I don't know enough about the AM case to come to a firm conclusion. I do believe sometimes people are just...crackheads...people who made poor choices and reallly have no one to blame but themselves. I'll be looking out for updates to this case.

Mariah Carey "I Want To Know What Love Is"

This is Mariah's new single off her album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.

Chris Brown "Crawl"

This is Chris Brown's debut video for "Crawl" and last night's Wendy Williams interview. I know some of you will question why I'm not writing a long diatribe for this Chris Brown post. The answer is, I haven't had a chance to properly review this song, whereas the song from Brown's ex- has been all over the airwaves for almost two weeks. In other words, I'm still stuck on "I Can Transform Ya". (It's a catchy song.) I will say I think Chris needs to stay off Twitter and stop making statements about Rihanna for a while. He should let some time pass and continue to work on himself and his issues. Give the public some time to forgive him then open a dialogue. Enjoy and leave your thoughts in the comment section.

Rihanna "Russian Roulette"

I have posted elsewhere my objections to this song. I think the production on here is fantastic and Rihanna sounds great (can't say the same for "Run This Town"; her wail is annoying there). The lyrics are catchy and the beat on the intro really draws you in. My issue with the song is two-fold: 1) she waited until she has a new single and album to promote to come forward with her story of what happened . While I applaud the increased attention toward the oft-times taboo subject of domestic violence, the timing seems contrived and her approach manipulative. Her management can't possibly think the public believes she was too upset to broach the subject publicly when she was literally on the blogs every other day for an appearance at one exotic, luxe locale or another. Rihanna was also supposedly still dating Chris Brown for some time after the incident, but this has been glossed over by her PR machine. I sense we are veering off on a tangent, so let's continue, shall we?

The points laid out in number one are really par for the course in the industry so my strongest objection comes from 2) the lyrics. The lyrics to this song describe a young girl grappling with her decision to take part in a game of Russian roulette as part of an initiation into some sort of group (probably a gang). The girl realizes she might lose her life, but feels pressured to partake because the guy initiating her made it through unscathed. This is exactly the type of extreme and dangerous imagery that appeals to many of today's youth. Adolescents as a whole feel they are invincible while at the same time being far more susceptible to peer pressure and trends than any other age group. Rihanna is a huge pop star and trendsetter. If she is all over the airwaves singing about a suicide game, children and youth will follow suit.

Unfortunately, like drug use, suicide ideaology can take root from one bad seed and spread through a peer group like wildfire. I think it is despicable for someone who, only a week ago, was on prime time television declaring she wants to be a role model for young girls to then turn around and talk about possibly blowing her brains out because someone told her to. Some critics question Rihanna's singing and dancing abilities, however she has star appeal and is likely to stick around for the next few years if not longer. There is money to be made regardless of what she sings about (umbrellas?), so why not make your comeback with something positive?

Robin Thicke wants to give you "Sex Therapy"

Robin Thicke's speaking voice is just as sexy as his singing voice. Ladies (and gents?) he is serious about this sex therapy thing. Oh, and I heard he rubs his wife's pregnant belly every night to make her and the baby feel loved.

Michael Jackson's and Lisa Marie's marriage certificate up for auction

The marriage certificate issued to Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley following their May 26, 1994 wedding in the Dominican Republic will go up for auction January 10, 2010. According to Phillip Weiss Auctions, the certificate was issued following a 15 minute ceremony and boasts signatures of both stars. The auction house released this statement:

“Anything relating to Michael Jackson is of extreme interest right now
because of his untimely death and the release of the movie,” Weiss explains.
“…When you have an item that combines his name and legend with the Presley name and legend, their marriage certificate no less, with both of their signatures on
it, you’ve got something that’s almost impossible to predict what it will bring
at auction.”

Yaki Nights Over Egypt

The gentleman on the left, Egyptian chief Egyptologist Zahi Hawass called American pop-star Beyonce a “stupid person” during her brief tour of the Giza pyramids earlier this week

In a shocking display of poor diplomacy, writing in al-Shorouk newspaper, Summer al-Gamal said that Hawass became fed up with the pop star’s attitude after she did not show the interest Hawass felt was deserved of the pyramids, according to Bikya Masr website.

According to Gamal, during Hawass’ self-guided tour, he said “I showed her the Sphinx and I gave her a book on King Tutankhamen,” but then his anger and frustration made its way to the forefront.

“Then he stopped being diplomatic and said in anger, ’she’s a stupid person and she doesn’t understand a thing and she doesn’t want to understand’,” wrote Gamal. But if he really felt that way, why did he give her a book, must be a picture book.

Donnie McClurkin went on an anti-gay rant last weekend

Gay gospel superstar Donnie McClurkin went on an anti-gay rant last weekend at the Church of God In Christ convention in Memphis.

McClurkin's rant can bee seen in a series of three YouTube videos. He begins his rant against Tonex, the gospel star who recently came out amidst continuing rumors about his sexuality. McClurkin says Tonex is a "perversion" and must pray away the gay: "God did not call young people to such peversion. Society has failed him, his church has failed him ... I would be homosexual to this day if Jesus hadn't delivered."

McClurkin also berated openly gay youth as "broken and feminine": "I see feminine men, feminine boys, everywhere I go ... No, don't applaud 'cuz it ain't funny. It's because we failed. I see them everywhere." He didn't let young lesbian girls off the hook either: "These young girls are just as bad as the boys in homosexuality, you don't see it. They can hide ... but there are some evil young hard butch girls."

It should be noted that despite McClurkin's claims for "delivery" from his homosexuality, he has admitted to "backsliding" on a number of occasions. He has compared his sexuality to diabetes saying (I'm paraphrasing here) 'I'm a diabetic. I don't eat sugar, but it doesn't mean I don't want sugar; that doesn't mean when I see an attractive man I don't want him.' If that doesn't mean you are gay then I don't know what does.

D. Wade is the new face of Air Jordan

For the 25th anniversary of Air Jordan his airness himself hand picked Dwyane Wade to be the new face and represent the brand in commercials for the iconic shoe line.

Jordan said during the unveiling Wednesday night in Miami: "Sometimes you have to pass the torch. ... He epitomizes what the brand represents, being a player from our home community of Chicago, he has won championships already, his work ethic ... those are all things that I feel like represent the brand. I think we can build a great relationship."

The new shoe will be available on February 13th during NBA All-Star Weekend for $170.

The National Franchise Association, which represents more than 80 percent of Burger King's U.S. franchise owners, said the chain's $1 double cheeseburger promotion forces restaurant owners to sell the menu option with at least a 10 percent loss. Production costs vary by location, but the $1 double cheeseburger typically costs franchisees at least $1.10. It is estimated the promotion increased restaurant traffic by as much as 20%, but 90% of franchise owners have tried to avoid selling the product.

The King of Pop's funeral cost $1,000,000

Michael Jackson's family wanted to give him a proper send off so they paid upwards of US$1 million for the private family funeral before his interment at Forest Lawn-Glendale Cemetery.

Costs included $855,730 for cemetery and funeral charges including the purchase of other plots within the same mausoleum where Jackson now rests; $35,000 for burial garments; $2,000 for usher uniforms; $1,975 for clothing for the family; $3,682 for framing of a photograph of Michael to display next to the casket; $959 for embroidery; $11,716 for invitations and programs; $16,000 for flowers; $30,000 for cars and security; and $15,000 for a funeral designer. There was also a charge of $21,455 for the "funeral repast" at a local Italian restaurant after the interment. The estate also paid $5,000 a month to store Michael's body in the months leading up to the funeral. Janet, Randy, and Katherine (and interestingly, NOT LaToya or Jermaine) were involved in the funeral arrangements and Janet paid a $49,000 to Forest Lawn-Glendale.

"Mrs. Jackson and her family wish to honor her son by a funeral that seeks to offer solace to his multitude of fans and by which the family also may be comforted," the Mrs. Jackson's attorneys said. [The costs were] "entirely commensurate with the decedent's worldwide status as an entertainer and the world's grief over his death."

Solange and Wale sittin' in a tree

K-I-S-S-I-N-G! Wale could barely contain his crush on Solange during a recent interview with honeymag.com:

“I do love her,” he admits of Solange, flashing a Cheshire. “We’re
friends. She’s amazing. She’s a good person. Any single mother contributing
to society the way she does - I got a lot of love for them. She’s got to do
a lot on her own and raise a young black man in this day and age so my
hat goes off to her. She’s definitely an anomaly. And the way she can do
that and manage to do the same things that I complain about having to
do.” His affection is as obvious as a set of flushed cheeks. An
impossibly adorable. Wale, the former mixtape rapper from inner city DC, is
borderline giddy. “Did you interview Solange about me?” Wale asks. He’s
sprawled across his bed; head practically buried in the pillow. “Did she
smile when you mentioned my name?”

I think his obvious admiration is very sweet, however let us not forget Solange is hardly the typical single mom. I dare say she has far more help and money than the vast majority of single parents rasing children in the United States. Still, I'm interested in seeing how this collaboration develops on and off the stage.

Omarion doesn't want to smell the Rose

Omarion spoke out about dating and dissed Kanye's gal in the process:
“No disrespect, but no Amber Rose for me. Everybody has their past – and don’t get me wrong, I’m not judgemental at all – but I do like a certain amount of class. I’m not married. I’m chilling. At this moment I’m not (dating). I have friends that I converse with, and I have that male-female camaraderie, but there’s no girlfriend at the moment.”

O dismissed rumors he married a bi-sexual stripper earlier this year and conveniently forgot he recorded a song about bisexual women earlier this year. Still, you've got to respect a man who knows what he wants.

Dwight Howard was fined $15,000 for blogging about an NBA game. Click here to read the most expensive blog post to date. This really puzzles me because plenty of people are paid to blog about certain industries to drive up interest. It would stand to reason a player posting personal thoughts about his performance and the game--as long as he isn't revealing sensitive team strategies or information--would further draw in the fans. The NBA might want to reconsider this policy.

Darius Rucker has unprecedented win at CMA awards

Hootie and the Blowfish front man Darius Rucker celebrated a historic win at the Country Music Association Awards show in Nashville, Tennessee Wednesday night. Rucker became the first African-American ever to win the best new artist of the year award; he joins Charley Pride as the only African-Americans ever to win major individual awards at the awards show.

Rucker took the stage while the audience cheered and roared, “What a year! First of all, to the fans, thank y’all for accepting me,” the crowed. “And I think most importantly, to country radio, you took a chance on a pop singer from Charleston, S.C. Thank you so much for that!”

Joe Jackson got shut down

Following on the heels of his recent filing demanding support from his late son, Michael Jackson's estate, Jackson 5 patriarch, Joe Jackson, filed a motion claiming John McClain and John Branca should be removed as executors of Michael's estate. The elder Jackson claims his son believed Branca and McClain had defrauded him and accused the two administrators of conflicts of interest. Joe Jackson's attorney Brian Oxman said in a phone interview with the Associated Press that his client is allowed to challenge the executors as "an interested party who has the right to be an executor or personal representative." Michael Jackson's 2002 will left his entire estate to his three children and his mother with a portion going to support children's charities; the will omitted Joseph Jackson entirely.

Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff said Joe Jackson could not challenge the executors of the estate. "I don't think he gets to step into this and create further litigation," the judge decreed. "Joe Jackson takes none of this estate. This is a decision his son made." He did, however say Joe Jackson could petition the court for an allowance from the estate since his son had been supporting him for many decades.

In a surprise move, the lawyer for Michael Jackson's mother and heir of his estate, Katherine Jackson, withdrew Mrs. Jackson's objection to the Branca and McClain as special administrators saying she felt they could "enhance the legacy of Michael Jackson in the best interest of his children." This reversal ends months of legal wrangling the executors from Mrs. Jackson and her adult children, however it swept the legs from beneath her husband's legal objection to their appointment. Mr. Jackson's attorney Oxman called the abrupt about face despicable and hinted at a possible lawsuit against his client's wife for her failure to support his motion.

Michael Vick is complaining

Michael Vick has just been allowed to return to the NFL and he is already complaining. When asked about the prospect of returning to the Philadelphia Eagles next year.

"It would be hard," Vick told NBC. "It would be an everyday struggle. But I would have to take that time to hone my skills and get better. I'm excited about the opportunity I have moving forward whether it's with Philadelphia or another team...I won't be a Wildcat guy. I can't," Vick said. "It's a different style of play. It's almost like a hit-or-miss type of thing. My position is quarterback. That's what I was born to do."

Whether or not Vick wants to return is irrelevant since the Eagles have the option to keep him around next year for $3.6 million.

I'm calling double fault on Serena Williams for her nude photo shoot for Glamour magazine. (I hope I don't get a beat down for this.) She is being honored as Woman of the Year along with First Lady Michelle Obama, poet and author Maya Angelou, and Rihanna (<--how did that happen?). I vehemently defended Serena for her ESPN Magazine nude photo shoot. I thought it was very appropriate for their body issue and she was not the only nude in the issue, however I see absolutely no good reason for her to be nude in the Woman of the Year Issue. It lacks taste to be ass out next to the FLOTUS and a Pulitzer Prize nominee. She needs to take that to King Smooth Magazine. Before I catch any flack for that Rihanna quip a few lines up, think about it. Mrs. Obama is an international role model who has championed many causes in the past year in the White House. Maya Angelou has more literary awards than I can remember as well as a number of Grammys. Rihanna, while I enjoy some of her songs, has done little more this year than look fetching.

Denyce Lawton calls out Melyssa Ford as a lying, man-stealing ho

You might have to zoom in to read this Twitter mess.

Actress and Hollywood makeup artist Denyce Lawton and erstwhile video chick and calendar babe Melyssa Ford had a Twitter Tiff (I trademarked that phrase!). The frenemies went at it last month on Twitter about their *ahem* work ethic, various qualifications, and who loves Jesus the most.

Who are these women you say? Well, Melyssa Ford has been in a number of videos including Jay-Z's "Big Pimping", Mystikal's "Shake Ya Ass", and Sisqo's "Thong Song Remix." Miss Lawton has also been in a number of videos (but not as many as Melyssa a.k.a. Jessica Rabbit). Denyce has appeared in "Rockstar" by N.E.R.D., "One Mic" by Nas, "Anything" by Jaheim, and "Peaches and Cream" by 112. (Ford also did a 112 video. Are you seeing a theme here?)

On a side note, Melyssa's press info says she just turned 33. Just like with Beyonce's age, I'm going to have to say there.is.just.no.way. Don't get me wrong, like Vivica Fox, Melyssa looks absolutely fantastic. I just think one of those 3's should be a 4 and I'm not talking about the second one. I heard she was in her 30's like 10 years ago. Does anyone else know anything about this? No hate at all, I'm just saying. Claim your age whatever it is.

Anyhow, in the tweets above, Melyssa and Denyce were compared, with Denyce being called an "actress" because she lists TYLER PERRY'S House of Payne and Soul Plane as credits. The point is, both of them are just trying to get their piece. Why can't we all just get along?

Plies has a conscience

Rapper Plies recently stopped his set at FAMU's homecoming when he realized one of the ticket holders was under 18. He had his people bring the girl on stage, spoke with her, then after determining she was a minor, offered her and her mother (who brought her to the concert, by the way, SMH) $1000 if she would leave the show and go somewhere more age appropriate. He also gave her his infamous "goon chain" which is reportedly worth around $15,000.
While I applaud Plies for taking a stand and insisting his music is for adults only, his generosity will only encourage other fast teenagers and parents with poor judgement to follow suit to see if they can get a big pay day. How much do you want to bet the mama wasn't even a Rattler?

Sheree Whitfield's husband Bob attempts to air that ass out

Real Housewives of Atlanta's Sheree Whitfield has been harping on how her ex-husband, former NFL baller Bob Whitfield, did her dirty during their marriage and is shirking his responsibilities to their children. I always thought it curious Bob never said anything with all the negative statements she made about him. Well, now he is striking back talking about her looks and attitude in an on-air interview with The Nigel and Marco Show.

“I wish her the best. I’m happy [she's] doing something...I wish Sheree would quit trying to trash me and then use my last name...I’m feeling like I’m the mad scientist and I created Frankenstein. She didn’t have that nose, I put that nose on her. She didn’t have them breasts, I put them breasts on her. Put some electricity on that ass, now she’s tearing up the gotdamn laboratory. Sit down somewhere and calm it down. You forget who made you girl.”

Whitfield also hinted he has a sex tape with Sheree that might make an appearance if she doesn't cool her jets. Something tells me Sheree would welcome the attention brought by a sex tape, especially if the lesbian rumors persist.

They Should Do This On American Idol

Six women were arrested and charged with assault for allegedly attacking another woman due to her poor karaoke performance, according to officials at the Stamford Police Department.

The suspects, ranging in age from 19-20, were arrested Sept. 23 after fleeing Bobby Valentine's Sports Gallery Cafe in Stamford, Connecticut, where they are said to have attacked the woman.

The alleged victim, 25-year-old Leidy Alcantara, was singing "A Dios Le Pido" by Colombian singer Juanes when the suspects started accosting her.
"I was singing the song in Spanish, and some girl said I was very annoying," Alcantara told the New York Daily News.

The victim shot back something to the effect of, 'If you don't like it, you can leave,' which the girls took exception to, Stamford police spokesman Lt. Sean Cooney told the Stamford Times. The altercation occurred after the exchange of comments, according to Cooney. The women punched, kicked and pulled Alcantra's hair, according to police.
