Marvell Scott charged with rape

Former WABC sports anchor, Marvell Scott  was charged this week with raping with a 14-year-old

prostitute in New York City.  Scott, 36, allegedly met the girl through her pimp.  He allegedly took her and a 16 year old girl to his apartment where she refused to deliver the agreed-upon services.  He then allegedly raped the girl, who had just turned 14 the day before.  Scott, after initially denying he had met the girls, eventually said he allowed the girls into his apartment to use the restroom.  He was released on $10,000 bail after pleading not guilty Tuesday. He was also charged with patronizing a prostitute and endangering the welfare of a child.  He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of the charges.

No civil rights charges in the Sean Bell murder case

The United States Department of Justice announced Tuesday that after a "careful and thorough review" it will not pursue federal civil rights charges against police officers involved in the 2006 shooting death of Sean Bell citing insufficient evidence.

there is not enough evidence to prove that New York Police Department detectives "acted willfully" when they fired approximately 50 bullets at Sean Bell and his friends the night of November 25, 2006.  Bell, 23, had been at a nightclub in Queens for a bachelor party with friends hours before he was to marry the mother of his two young children.  The shooting occurred after an altercation with the plainclothes detectives in a parking lot.  Neither Bell nor his friends were armed.  Two of his friends, Joseph Guzman and Trent Benefield, were seriously injured when the officers opened fire.

Detectives Gescard Isnora, Marc Cooper, and Michael Oliver -- who fired his gun 31 times that night, pausing to reload his weapon -- were acquitted of all charges in April 2008 prompting a statement from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg saying the acquittal was "inexplicable...and...unacceptable...it sounds to me like excessive force was used."  Rev. Al Sharpton, Bell's fiancee and 200 others were arrested in the ensuing widespread protests sparked by the verdict.

Tuesday's DOJ statement explained that federal criminal civil rights charges hinge on prosecutors establishing that officers deliberately deprived the victims of their constitutional rights, and intended to break the law.

"Neither accident, mistake, fear, negligence nor bad judgment is sufficient to establish a federal criminal civil rights violation," the statement says.  Rev. Al Sharpton released a rebuttal statement expressing his "extreme disappointment in the decision" and saying he may join with the Bell family in a civil lawsuit "to try and bring some justice...Fifty shots on an unarmed man who engaged in no crime is intolerable."

What's in a name, JiggaMan?

I have no idea if this is true or not, but it makes an interesting story.  According to the Daily Star newspaper, Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z are planning to legally hyphenate their last names.
The majority of U.S. women still take their husband's last name at marriage, though the custom is waning in popularity in favor of hyphenated last names, the wife keeping her maiden name, and blending last names.
Rather than Beyonce taking on her husband's name after marrying, as is still the custom in the United States, “they want to keep Knowles because Beyonce’s parents didn’t have any sons and they’re keen to keep the name going strong, especially if they don’t produce any children themselves,” a source told the publication.

If reports are true, Jay-Z will be known as Shawn Knowles-Carter, while Beyonce is to become Beyonce Knowles-Carter.  I'm not really sure how them not having any children of their own will still keep the last name going, but if Jay-Z goes through with this they would definitely be making a strong statement about the balance of power within their relationship.  Jay-Z has become a powerful mogul in a world dominated by machisimo and bravado.  What are your thoughts on the surname conundrum and how it affects the identity of the couple?  Do your opinions change when a couple has children?

Act like a lady, think like a man who is looking for his next wife

In addition to serving as a correspondent for Good Morning America, Steve Harvey has been tapped to serve as a relationship columnist for Essence Magazine. His relationship advice book Act Like a Lady, Think Like A Man spent many weeks at the top of the New York Times Bestseller list. All of this is very ironic considering Harvey has been married three times. His second marriage ended in a very messy divorce including claims Harvey denied his wife and son adequate support funds, that he abandoned some of his children, he neglected his son, and allegations he physically abused his ex-wife. It was reported Harvey refused to pay his ex- any more than $1000 a month in child support, and that he attempted to defaud her of her share of the business ventures they undertook together during their 10 year marriage.

Chad Ochocinco = Chad X

Controversial NFL player Chad Ocho Cinco is contemplating yet another name change. He had previously legally changed his name from Chad Johnson to Chad Ocho Cinco. While his current name has a bit of a latin flair, this time he went transpacific to the Land of the Rising Sun for his new name. Ocho Cinco announced on his UStream channel Sunday before the Detroit Lions game, his new name will be "Hachi Go," which is Japanese for "Eight Five." Chad decided on the name after a Japanese film crew in town for a special on the Bengals encouraged him to adopt the Japanese version of his surname. Being perpetually thirsty for attention and an all around prankster, Chad went for it. Frankly, I think he should just change his name to Chad X and be done with it.

...Prepare to die!

A North Carolina woman is recovering from bruises, scratches on her face, and a hoof print on her leg after being trampled by a herd of deer in the middle of downtown. The woman was headed to her jewelry store when a herd of deer came out of nowhere. One of the deer kicked her into the air, causing her to land on her head, then the others trampled her on their way from a protest march against the holiday re-release of Bambi.

The View makes another rape misstep

ABC's "Modern Family" star Sophia Vergara visited the women of the View to promote her new show. When asked how her character could possibly have a 18-year-old son, she jokes "I was raped at 13!" The View cast laughed along with her, but this is not funny. You might recall how Whoopi Goldberg stepped in a steaming pile a month or so ago regarding the Roman Polanski extradition when she said "I mean it wasn't rape rape?" Outrageously, the media seems to have forgotten her remarks and let her off the hook. I haven't.

You'll have to wait until January for those snakeskin shoes

Yes, those are the Loubotin blue snake skin Declics.

Florida's first-ever python hunting season ended last night. State wildlife authorities sponsored the pilot program in an attempt to put a dent in the state's exploding python population. Python species like the Burmese Python were introduced into the wild by would-be pet owners who buy the pets at reptile shows and pet stores then realize they cannot properly care for the fast-growing voracious eaters. The snakes can grow to be over 10 feet long and weigh over 250 lbs; it is estimated several thousand of the snakes now inhabit the numerous wild areas in south and central Florida with numbers increasing daily due to natural reproduction and lack of natural predators; earlier this year, officials found a deceased python who had burst open after ingesting a large alligator.

Jon-Kate=Jon+Octomom

Don't look now, but the producer of 'Cheaters' and a former producer of 'The Springer Show' is in talks with Jon Gosselin and Nadya Suleman for a new reality tv show. The premise of the show is the two will date. My man Jon ain't really feelin' the possibility of 22 child support payments right off the top, however Nadya already admitted that she thinks Jon is 'hot'. Looks like the apocalypse will be televised...

He Robbed Her Home, Then Came Back to Steal Her Heart

When the individual in the picture at the top, Stephfon Bennett showed up on the doorstep of Diana Martinez, he felt love and she felt she had met him before. Perhaps it was because he just robbed her two hours prior.

Diana Martinez was robbed at gunpoint by three men late that Sunday evening. Imagine attempting to lower your adrenaline level surrounded with trusted loved ones, being a little gun shy at any foreign sounds in your home, when a knock comes upon your door. Is it police coming with information? Is it more concerned friends and family? The pizza delivery guy? Nope, it’s Stephfon Bennett, one of the alleged perpetrators. Like Al Green says, love can make you do wrong, then make you do right and also make you act like an idiot.

Fortunately, Diana somehow got word to her cousin who was inside Diana’s empty home and the cousin called 911. He was arrested in front of her apartment and was charged with aggravated robbery and was being held on $100,000 bail. Check the news footage for the details...

"This Is It": This Is Mine

Songwriter/producer "Paul Anka" has reached an agreement with Michael Jackson's estate over the newly released single "This Is It." Anka claims he and Michael co-wrote the song in the 1980's and Michael recorded it in 1991 during his sessions for his Dangerous album. According to Anka, the song was also recorded by a singer named Safire in 1991 and released as "I Never Heard." Producers have arranged at least three versions of the song, the original, a version with Michael's brothers singing backup, and an orchestral arrangement. The latter two will be included on the two-disc companion set for the film This Is It.

Under the terms of the agreement, Anka received an official apology for his omission from the writing credits for the song and he will share in 50% of the publishing rights; Anka, himself, called the omission "an honest mistake" shortly after claiming estate special administrator John McClain told him, "Now we know why the song was so good ... it wasn't the type of Michael Jackson song that he could write." Excuse me?
