In time for Christmas...the new Black Barbies

The new black Barbies released by Mattel have fuller lips, curlier hair and other features that the company says more accurately represent African-American women.

Some have cheered the new dolls. Others jeered them, saying they're not black enough. Are the mini dolls sisters or daughters?

This is so udderly ridiculous...there are SIX of these 'sculptures' purchased at a cost of $500,000. Chief William J. Bratton said he walked by the installation to see whether "it's as ugly up close as it is when you're driving by and it looks like some kind of cow splat."

State Farm teams up Mr. Steve Harvey

State Farm Insurance Cos. has partnered with comedian Steve Harvey to create a series of short digital clips that aim to make humorous connections to serious issues.

At harveyknows-best.com, consumers will be able to access animated digital shorts in which the "King of Comedy" offers observations on a variety of topics that affect people's daily lives. The first piece was launched this week to mark National Teen Driver Safety Week, and offers Harvey's take on his teen's desire for transportation.

"These bits are strictly entertaining," said Pam El, State Farm marketing vice president. "Though they address insurance and financial services-related topics, to broaden State Farm's brand voice in an unexpected way they are delivered with Steve's unique perspective and humor."

The 48 digital shorts will be rolled out during the coming year.

Jennifer Hudson to play Winnie Mandela?

According to Roger Friedman's Showbiz 411, Oscar and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson’s supercharged appearance Tuesday night at Denise Rich’s annual Angel Ball gave rise to talk about her next project.

Hudson, who won the Academy Award for “Dreamgirls” and was so good in “The Secret Life of Bees,” is now rumored to be in talks for an indie biopic about South African leader Winnie Mandela. Winnie was a winner during her years as wife of Nelson Mandela during his 27-years of illegal incarceration. But in later years she lost her way, getting into legal trouble and becoming a pariah. She and Mandela have been divorced for some time.

The word is that either the terrific Derek Luke or actor Idris Elba might be up for the part of Nelson Mandela. Details are still sketchy.

Winnie Mandela is all of a sudden a hot topic in movies. This summer, Oscar nominee Sophie Okenedo played Winnie in a BBC film.

Weezy Books a Room on Rikers?

When Lil Wayne took the stage for his first major New York gig in July 2007, the rapper was on the cusp of greatness. But the night ended with a trip to jail after he was arrested on a gun charge after a police search of his tour bus detected a 40 caliber pistol. Two years later, thanks to DNA evidence reportedly linking him to the weapon, Wayne could be on the verge of cutting a plea deal that would send him to prison for eight months.

It is thought that authorities will drop criminal weapons possession (Plaxico) charges in return for the guilty plea on a lesser charge. AllHipHop.com claims the guilty plea could come as early as today and would have Wayne beginning his bid in February.

Meet Steve McNair's OTHER other woman

Meet Steve McNair's OTHER other woman, Leah Ignagni. Nashville Metro Police have confirmed Ignagni was also dating married Tennessee Titan Steve McNair at the time of his murder. McNair was murdered by one of his girlfriends, Shahel Kazemi, on July 3rd before she turned the gun on herself. Police are still investigating the murder-suicide.

Eddie Murphy holds a Blue Light Special on his house

Five years (!) after his Englewood, New Jersey mansion Bubble Gum and Two Snaps Up Bubble Hill went on the market for $30 million, comedian Eddie Murphy has slashed the price in half in hopes of closing a sale. The 25,000 square foot 32-room Colonial-style mansion sits on a 5 acre lot and boasts an indoor pool, elevator, theater, recording studio, bowling alley, and a separate carriage house with a gym.

When Murphy listed the home in 2004 it was then the most expensive home in New Jersey. The home has been costing him $197,723 per year in taxes.

Whitney Married Bobby to Stop Bisexual Rumors

Bobby Brown claims Whitney only married him to quiet the rumors about her sexuality. In his new (almost year old) tell-all book, Bobby Brown: The Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing But..., Brown writes, "(The marriage) was doomed from the very beginning... I think we got married for all the wrong reasons. Now, I realize Whitney had a different agenda than I did when we got married... I believe her agenda was to clean up her image, while mine was to be loved and have children with as many different women as possible."
"The media was accusing her of having a bisexual relationship with her assistant, Robin Crawford. Since she was the American Sweetheart and all, that didn't go too well with her image... In Whitney's situation, the only solution was to get married and have kids. That would kill all speculation, whether it was true or not. But of course, it didn't work."

McNair's mistress plotted for weeks

Officials say Steve McNair's mistress may have been plotting his death for weeks before she committed the murder/suicide. Phone records show she exchanged over 200 phone calls and text messages with the man who illegally sold her the gun she used to shoot McNair in the two weeks before his murder. Police still maintain Shahel Kazemi was distraught over McNair's increasing aloofness due to her clingyness and had significant financial problems.

Bishop's gotta brand new broom

Bishop Thomas Weeks III remarried this past weekend in a quiet ceremony. Weeks, head of Global Destiny Worldwide, an international church empire, chose to keep the nuptials on the hush hush, inviting only his church family and friends instead of the media spotlight that followed him during the stormy break-up of his marriage to pastor Juanita Bynum in 2008. His new bride, Christina Glenn is a self-described prophetess, who like Bynum has a ministry of her own and can presumably foresee her next ass whoopin'. The video of the wedding is for sale online for $10.

Michael Jordan's son might cost UCF millions

Michael Jordan's son's refusal to take the court in adidas shoes has caused quite a tempest in the world of athletic apparel and school contracts. University of Central Florida has a contract with sports apparel maker adidas spanning their entire athletic program. Marcus Jordan has agreed to wear adidas apparel, but has put his foot down, so to speak, about wearing their shoes; he prefers Nike Air Jordans, named for his own famous father.

UFC's athletic director, Keith Tribble, has stepped aside to allow Jordan to make the decision for himself, but adidas released a statement saying they might reconsider the terms of the university's contract if Jordan does not play in their shoes. Withdrawal of a portion of the contract compensation would leave the school's athletic program with a sizeable shortfall, one the elder Jordan might not be willing to shore up simply for the ego boost of his son wearing his namesakes.

Dancing With The Stars Michael Jackson Tribute

Dancing With The Stars did a tribute to Michael Jackson last night on their results show. I have to admit, as corny as that show is (but I love it and watch every week) the tribute wasn't half bad. BET should have given them a call, for real. The family was there to lend their support including, Mrs. Katherine, LaToya, Jermaine, and the child support enforcement officers; Jermaine knows damn well Randy has to pay that woman, too. He could have shared the spotlight for one night. LaToya and Jermaine did quite a bit of talking before the actual dances; would you expect anything less? I will try to find the video of their speeches. In the meanwhile, someone PLEASE try to analyze the chemical makeup of whatever Jermaine is trying to pass off as hair these days. Mm'kay?

Hoeshit Down Under

It's a small world after all seeing as how Snow White couldn't find any one else and finally bedded the Seven Dwarves. Australian Jamieson's Raspberry Ale is in hot water with the Disney Company over a racy advert depicting alter egos of popular fairy tale characters. Snow White--now dubbed Ho White--is shown blowing smoke rings in a post-coital recline semi-nude under bed covers. The heroine is sandwiched in between no less than seven partners: the seven dwarves Happy, Sleepy, and Doc now redubbed Smarmy, Filthy, and Randy. Ad company The Foundry defended itself by saying they wanted to convey their fruit-flavored ale is "anything but sweet".

Dave Chappelle was disqualified from the competition for the endurance title at the Laugh Factory in L.A. because he left the stage to use the restroom. Chappelle lasted five hours before nature called, prompting club owner Jamie Masada to disqualify him. "There are only two rules," Masada said Tuesday. "You have to continuously tell jokes that are funny and you can't leave the stage, even to go to the bathroom." Richard Pryor set the original record at the Laugh Factory by performing for two hours, 41 minutes, in 1980. Comedian Dane Cook broke Pryor's recorod 27 years later with a three-hour, 50-minute set. Chappelle raised the bar to six hours, seven minutes before Cook took the record back last year turning in a seven-hour, 34 minute performance..

Real Life 'Coming to America'

For years, Charles Wesley Mumbere worked as a nurse's aide in Maryland and Pennsylvania, caring for the elderly and sick. No one there suspected that he had inherited a royal title in his African homeland when he was just 13.

The new King of Uganda's Mountains of the Moon has undergone many transformations — from teenage leader of a rebel force to impoverished student to a nursing home assistant working two jobs in the U.S., where he lived for nearly 25 years.

He inherited the title when his father, Isaya Mukirania Kibanzanga, died while leading a secessionist group in the Rwenzori Mountains, otherwise known as the Mountains of the Moon. The rebels were protesting the oppression of their Bakonzo ethnic group by their then-rulers, the Toro Kingdom.

Shortly after his father died, Mumbere went to the United States in 1984 on a Uganda government scholarship, attending a business school until Uganda's leadership changed and the stipend was stopped. He gained political asylum in 1987, trained as a nurse's aide and took a job in a suburban Washington nursing home to pay his bills. In 1999, he moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania's capital, where he worked for at least two health care facilities.

Living in the U.S., however, was "a very difficult experience," he said. "Sometimes you have two jobs. You go to college in the morning, between 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Then you go prepare to go to work at 3 p.m. and then return at 11 p.m."

On Monday, after years of political upheaval and financial struggle, Mumbere, 56, was finally crowned king of his people to the sound of drumbeats and thousands of cheering supporters wearing cloth printed with his portraits.

At a public rally later in the day, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni officially recognized the 300,000-strong Rwenzururu Kingdom. Museveni restored the traditional kingdoms his predecessor banned in 1967, but has been adamant that kings restrict themselves to cultural duties and keep out of politics.

Good grief for "Good Hair"

A judge has ruled Chris Rock's documentary "Good Hair" can open nationwide despite an injuction sought by filmmaker Regina Kimball. Kimball maintains Rock's film drew inspiration from her film and copied aspects of her own documentary "My Nappy Roots". A judge in the case said she viewed both films and concluded they have different target audiences and portions do not seem to be similar at all. Kimball can still move forward with her lawsuit for copyright infringement and unfair competition. Kimball is seeking $5 million in damages.

Three NYC Dept. of Corrections officials resign

Three key officials at the Department of Corrections resigned Friday, just months after several prisoners held religious parties and a jailed female rapper posed for a magazine photo shoot for a hip-hop magazine.

Chief of Department Carolyn Thomas and Frank Squillante, assistant chief of special operations, both turned in their resignations effective Oct. 31, sources said. George Okada's resignation as warden of the Manhattan detention complex is effective the middle of next month, sources also said.

In June 2009, rapper Foxy Brown, who was serving nine months on Rikers Island for beating two nail salon manicurists in 2006, did a jailhouse interview with XXL Magazine.Correction officers allowed Brown to do the interview and pose for the photo shoot to promote her new album.

Kourtney Kardashian got robbed

Kourtney Kardashian doesn't have to worry about her little sister hogging all the spotlight anymore. She returned home on Saturday to find her Calabasas townhome had been robbed. According the police report, the robbers took her boyfriend/babydaddy's Rolex watch, Kourtney's $30,000 Cartier watch, diamond jewelry, and jewelry she inherited from her celebrity lawyer father, Robert Kardashian.

P.S. I'm quite certain she knew she was flashing her panties in that photo, hence the "thirsty" label.

Breaking News: Nashville Police Release new information in McNair Murder/Suicide

In the days before their deaths, Sahel Kazemi asked Steve McNair for $2,000 to cover bills and assurances that they would be together. Metro police on Monday released a summary report of the investigation into the former Tennessee Titans quarterback's murder that includes text messages and other details about the final hours of their lives.

Chris Wall, who provided security for McNair's family, told investigators that McNair had gotten increasingly annoyed over his relationship with Kazemi. She often called him when he was with his wife and children, according to Wall, and he was getting tired of it. He had slowed down the relationship and was seeing her less often, Wall said.

Investigators concluded that Kazemi, 20, was drowning in debt and despondent over realizations that McNair was dating other women and wasn't going to leave his wife for her.

A CBS report states that Kazemi had more than $2,500 in the bank, contradicting the police explanation that Kazemi was distraught over money and the unraveling relationship. But text messages between the two suggest that $2,000 of that money came from McNair on the evening before his murder.

Police released the report but as always, wouldn't comment on it. Here is the Tennessean.com account of the report.

Master P. is giving back to his community

Percy "Master P." Miller is working with HUD to rebuild the B.W. Cooper Housing Development in New Orleans that was damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The neighborhood, which is also locally known as the Calliope Projects, was a rough neighborhood where many local youth fell prey to drugs and crime. The new affordable housing community will be named Marrero Commons in honor of community activist Yvonne Marrero.

The project is dear to Master P's heart because he grew up in the Cooper Development: “I want to be able to show these guys look at me. I changed my image, I changed my life and I had to grow up. I'm honored to be a part of the ground breaking alongside President Obama's right hand man, Secretary Shaun Donovan who shares the same goals as me, which is to help B.W. Cooper residents get back into their new homes."

Black Patrons Sue Nightclub for $1 Billion

August 6th was supposed to be a big night for top urban fiction author Teri Woods, who had invited 175 people to party at a trendy SoHo nightclub to celebrate her new book 'Alibi'.

But the NY Times best selling writer of 'True to the Game' ended up in tears when she found almost her entire guestlist being kept outside Greenhouse's notorious velvet rope.

Club owner Barry Mullineaux declined to discuss what had happened to Woods' party beyond calling charges of racism "all pretty much bogus." Except that all of Woods' African-American guests were denied entry to the club, while her white guests including her lawyers were. A $1 billion class action suit has been filed on behalf of the guests that were left out in the cold. Pop the collar for the details...

Stilettos and Hoes

This story is just wrong on so many levels...22-year-old "dancer" Chetania Davis plead guilty to misdemeanor assault and was sentenced to one year of probation and a suspended six-month jail sentence for attacking her colleague with a stiletto heeled shoe. Davis stabbed her 52-year-old co-worker, Jo Nolan, repeatedly in the face with her shoe on April 17th in the dressing room. The incident occurred on Nolan's first day of work at Ohio's Club 1245; Davis was upset the management hired more dancers for the club. Oh, by the way, Davis is 8 months pregnant.

Khloe and Lamar signed their prenup

Reportedly, Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian have finally signed their prenuptial agreement, clearing the path for them to make their marriage legal. Allegedly Khloe and her negotiators, including her mother Chris Jenner, sought a new luxury car every year, a mansion, $5,000 a month for shopping, $1,000 for cosmetics and beauty treatments, and in the event of their divorce, $25,000 a month in alimony along with a half million dollars for every year they were married.

Reportedly, Khloe will only receive a small fraction of what she sought. TMZ reports Lamar will have to purchase a mansion for them to share during the marriage (it is unclear whether or not this home will remain with Khloe in the event of a divorce), will have to pay a lump sum for each year they are married, and will be required to fund a joint account for the two of them. Khloe has given up all rights to Lamar's NBA earnings; he has just inked a $33 million deal with the Lakers.

If you ask me, she needs to work on her shoveling techniques because she obviously got muscle fatigue and pooped out here. Don't they look a bit alike around the nose and mouth in that picture?

Why are the only guests Wendy can book for her show is Kathy Griffin, Kim Coles, Rosie Perez, Ray J, Robin Givens and Faizon Love?

A source says,“Despite declarations from producers that Wendy has changed, they are are begging the biggest stars in the business to come on her show, but they’re getting turned down flat.”

Her talk show is a cross between Howard Stern and Tyra Banks, but A-list African American celebrities including Mariah Carey, Whitney, LL Cool J, Denzel Washington, Usher, Tyler Perry and Diddy — have all refused to visit the show and boost her ratings. “Wendy isn’t that far removed from her days of bashing black Hollywood’s who’s who on her radio show, and people have long memories,” says a booking source close to the talk show.

"Executive Baby Mama" Strategy

According to the YBF, Alexsandra Wright, the woman who filed a paternity suit against Mathew Knowles, actually worked at Interscope Records a few months ago. She was the Marketing Director at the record company and went by the name of “Alex”.

Apparently, after Solange's old record label Geffen and Interscope merged, Mathew Knowles persuaded Interscope execs to hire Alexsandra. Staffers at Interscope contend, she was not competent for the job, overly dramatic, had work history missing from her resume and they were shocked she was hired for such a management related position.

Alex was fired from Interscope in March after working there a very short while. Then two weeks ago Alex files the paternity suit against Mathew claiming she's 6 months pregnant. Looks like she 'thanked' Mathew for the Interscope gig as an insurance policy of sorts.

Nas owes Uncle Sam

The President may have Nas and Jay-Z on his iPod, but that didn't stop the IRS from filing a federal tax lien on Nas for about $2.5 million. TMZ was trolling the tax filing records again and found Nas has not filed his income taxes for 2006 and 2007. So until he gets that lien lifted Kelis' claims take a distant second place....

BTW if Nas and Kelis filed 'married filing jointly' aren't Kelis taxes in arrears as well? hmmmmmmm....

Steve McNair was killed on July 4th-but fireworks continue...

Documents were filed late Friday afternoon in Nashville probate court which claim a Mississippi woman named Clover Lee has a 17-year-old daughter referred to as "J.N.L." who is seeking part of the late Tennessee Titan's fortune. Her attorney issued the following statement: "We expect that questions of paternity and heirship will soon be conclusively answered by DNA testing which is being conducted." Lee lives in McNair's hometown of Mount Olive, Miss. It was unclear why she waited until three months after McNair's death to file.

McNair's estate is estimated to be worth $19.6 million and is currently being divided among his widow and four sons. So far McNair's widow, Mechelle McNair, will get 40 percent of the estate, while the four or five children will get the rest.

Also on Friday, a judge ruled that McNair's portion of his Nashville restaurant, the Gridiron 9, can be sold, even though one of the other owners, Raymond White, opposes.

Michael Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray pitching his story

Michael Jackson's embattled physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, is allegedly quietly trying to sell his story. With a possible manslaughter indictment and baby mama sapping his assets, Murray is said to be hoping that a book and/or movie deal could be the perfect hypodermic for a quick cash infusion.

Famed writer-producer Lawrence Schiller confirms that he recently got a call from "an interested party" asking for his advice on how Murray's story could be turned into a book and documentary.

Murray's lawyer, Edward Chernoff, denied that Murray is looking to spill what he saw during the few weeks he tended to Jackson. "The doctor has had plenty of offers, but he is not interested in a book deal - he's interested in his freedom," Chernoff told us. "There is no agent out there authorized to make some deal for Dr. Murray (until I make the deal)."

Still, Murray's spokeswoman, Miranda Sevcik, admitted he has "money problems."

Jemaine, don't take it personal...

But your ex-Alejandra Jackson filed a lawsuit against you because she claims you have stopped paying child support for your two kids, Jermajesty (can you imagine them sitting around for nine months and that's what they came up with?) and Jaffar. According to TMZ, Alejandra says that Jermaine claims that he only made $35,000 in 2008, yet owes $35,000 in child support although he still lives in a mansion and drives a Rolls,so he needs to get serious.

This situation does not tickle anyone's fancy.

Alexandra also claims that Jermaine's mother Katherine helps her out by giving her gift cards to Ralph's grocery store so that she can buy food for the boys.

Before you go too hard on Jermaine, she also has three kids with Randy who at one time WORKED at Ralph's. So, you still like me don't you?
