Rihanna is researching S&M now.  (Well actually, B&D--don't ask how I know...)  According to The Mirror, Rihanna has been tapped to play a dominatrix in the remake of the 1985 cult classic The Last Dragon.  Samuel L. Jackson and the RZA have also signed on to the production.  Will Vanity make a cameo?  I'm not going to pass judgment before I see the movie, but I highly doubt anyone could top the original Bruce Leroy and Sho'Nuff.  I still have dreams about Taimak's fine self with all that light coming out of his curls.  Don't judge...

"Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief"

MTV Networks has just announced more powerhouse stars were added to the line up for Friday's "Hope for Haiti Now:  A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief" international telethon.  Wyclef Jean will host the show from New York, George Clooney will join in from L.A., and CNN's Anderson Cooper will give reports from the ground in Haiti.

Jay-Z and Rihanna will perform from London along with U2's the Edge and Bono and Coldplay.  Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Wyclef, Shakira, Sting, and Bruce Springsteen will sing from New York, while Stevie Wonder, Dave Matthews, and John Legend will perform from L.A.

Viewers can purchase the night's performances for 99 cents each through iTunes starting Saturday with all proceeds going towards earthquake relief, according to the networks.  The "Hope for Haiti" benefit will be broadcast from New York, Los Angeles, London and Haiti. It will be televised on all the major networks at 8 p.m. EST, as well as MTV, VH1, CMT, BET, PBS, CNN, Bravo, and a host of other networks. In addition, the telethon will be streamed live on Web sites including YouTube, MySpace and AOL.  Please consider supporting the relief efforts with your iTunes purchase.

Will Smith's daughter got Rihanna's haircut

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith's daughter Willow sported a Rihanna-inspired haircut Friday at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Norway. 9-year-old Willow appeared at the concert to introduce Chines pianist Lang Lang in Mandarin. If you are wondering what the Smith's were doing at the concert, you are not alone. I am supposing the trip was their reward for being such staunch supporters of the Obamas during last year's campaign. Now, Willow and her brother Jaden have appeared in a handful of movies, usually with their father Will, but sometimes alone. What do you all think: is it wrong for them to put their children out there like that?

Trendsetter and pop princess Rihanna is now looking to herself for inspiration in the form of a tattoo. Rihanna visited East Side Ink in NYC Monday night to get a very special tatt to remind her of her personal motto. Now every time she looks in the mirror, she will see "Never a failure, always a lesson" tattooed in grey ink just below her right clavicle. She had the motto written in backwards script so she could read it as she primps.

Rihanna is seen here on set with a Mickey Mouse helmet, a bullet bra covering her itty bitties, and some shorts even Daisy Duke would be embarassed to wear. Is this the new Army recruitment commercial? No, she got half-naked again for her new video "Hard." Of the video, Rihanna says “We got tanks, we got troops, helicopters, explosions, tight gear, lots of cute outfits, lots of bullets. Crazy!”

Well, I think Rihanna and her music would be more interesting to me without all the nudity and questionable situations. She has a few songs I really like, though I find all the constant thirst for media attention a bit irksom. I really think she has potential as a performer and long for her to develop her singing and performing skills. It would be nice to see her writing her own songs and maybe picking up a dance step or two. It is getting beyond old to just be served up sex on a platter without much substance. Is that a nipple I see in that gun pic? At least Madonna offered you the whole package steaming hot fresh every time she slutted it up. Come on Rihanna, I know you have it in you to do better than this!

Rihanna will ring in the new year with a bang and more than a few bucks. The "Umbrella" singer has been offered US$500,000 to sing at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi for New Year's Eve. It will be her first concert in the Middle East. Cue obscenely wealthy oil-rich boyfriend in 3, 2, 1...I wonder if they will make her cover up some of her more risque costumes.

Rihanna is seeking your attention again. The "R-Rated" star wants you to know she's an exhibitionist. "To be honest, I'm even hotter at home, because I´m always naked there. I'm from Barbados, that's quite normal there. My pool boy saw me naked five times already."At first it was so embarrassing. I always forget when he comes. I'm so confused when I have a day off, I usually sleep until noon and when I wake up, I don´t even know what day it is. But he's used to this view now. I even told my assistant to text me when he comes to say, 'Rihanna get dressed, the pool boy is here.' "

#1 For the record, if you know exactly how many times he's seen you naked, you are doing it on purpose and

#2 She needs more people on that Barbados remark. Barbados is rather conservative compared to other Caribbean islands. People don't even walk around in bathing suits outside bathing areas like they might do in say, Miami, Key West, Jamaica, and so forth.

Rihanna just likes attention. She often seeks that attention by being in some form of undress. But you already knew that.

Rihanna "Russian Roulette"

I have posted elsewhere my objections to this song. I think the production on here is fantastic and Rihanna sounds great (can't say the same for "Run This Town"; her wail is annoying there). The lyrics are catchy and the beat on the intro really draws you in. My issue with the song is two-fold: 1) she waited until she has a new single and album to promote to come forward with her story of what happened . While I applaud the increased attention toward the oft-times taboo subject of domestic violence, the timing seems contrived and her approach manipulative. Her management can't possibly think the public believes she was too upset to broach the subject publicly when she was literally on the blogs every other day for an appearance at one exotic, luxe locale or another. Rihanna was also supposedly still dating Chris Brown for some time after the incident, but this has been glossed over by her PR machine. I sense we are veering off on a tangent, so let's continue, shall we?

The points laid out in number one are really par for the course in the industry so my strongest objection comes from 2) the lyrics. The lyrics to this song describe a young girl grappling with her decision to take part in a game of Russian roulette as part of an initiation into some sort of group (probably a gang). The girl realizes she might lose her life, but feels pressured to partake because the guy initiating her made it through unscathed. This is exactly the type of extreme and dangerous imagery that appeals to many of today's youth. Adolescents as a whole feel they are invincible while at the same time being far more susceptible to peer pressure and trends than any other age group. Rihanna is a huge pop star and trendsetter. If she is all over the airwaves singing about a suicide game, children and youth will follow suit.

Unfortunately, like drug use, suicide ideaology can take root from one bad seed and spread through a peer group like wildfire. I think it is despicable for someone who, only a week ago, was on prime time television declaring she wants to be a role model for young girls to then turn around and talk about possibly blowing her brains out because someone told her to. Some critics question Rihanna's singing and dancing abilities, however she has star appeal and is likely to stick around for the next few years if not longer. There is money to be made regardless of what she sings about (umbrellas?), so why not make your comeback with something positive?

This is getting to be a bit much

I'm calling double fault on Serena Williams for her nude photo shoot for Glamour magazine. (I hope I don't get a beat down for this.) She is being honored as Woman of the Year along with First Lady Michelle Obama, poet and author Maya Angelou, and Rihanna (<--how did that happen?). I vehemently defended Serena for her ESPN Magazine nude photo shoot. I thought it was very appropriate for their body issue and she was not the only nude in the issue, however I see absolutely no good reason for her to be nude in the Woman of the Year Issue. It lacks taste to be ass out next to the FLOTUS and a Pulitzer Prize nominee. She needs to take that to King Smooth Magazine. Before I catch any flack for that Rihanna quip a few lines up, think about it. Mrs. Obama is an international role model who has championed many causes in the past year in the White House. Maya Angelou has more literary awards than I can remember as well as a number of Grammys. Rihanna, while I enjoy some of her songs, has done little more this year than look fetching.

I learned the hard way, but again, this is what I want people to know,” she said. “When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result in some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part. I couldn’t be held responsible for going back.”Even if Chris never hit me again, who is to say that their boyfriend won’t? Who’s to say that they won’t kill these girls?” she went on. “These are young girls and I just didn’t realize how much of an impact I had on these girls’ lives until that happened.”Rihanna said the past few months have been one of the “most lonely times” for her because “nobody understands what it’s like.”Said the singer, “There are a lot of women who’ve experienced what I did, but not in the public. So it made it really difficult. I just felt like, ‘Oh my God, here it goes, my little bit of privacy.’”

Rihanna finally breaks her silence

Rihanna will appear on Good Morning America Thursday morning. In her first interview since the infamous incident with Chris Brown this past February, Rihanna spoke with Diane Sawyer about domestic violence and her feelings for Chris. " "This happened to me... It can happen to anyone...he was definitely my first big love." Rihanna goes on to talk about how disconcerting it was to have the media following her every move. (I'm not buying that at all; she courts media attention like a moth to a light bulb.) She will also appear on 20/20 Friday evening. I find it curious she did not grant her first interview to Oprah considering how vocal Oprah was in her support following the media firestorm. Rihanna's new single titled "Russian Roulette" just hit the airwaves...
