Interracial couple denied marriage license
Keith Bardwell, a white justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, refused to marry an interracial couple earlier this month. Beth Humphrey, who is white, and Terence McKay, who is black went to Bardwell to make their union legal, but he refused on the grounds he thinks interracial unions do not last and the children of those unions may suffer. His refusal has caught the attention of civil and constitutional rights groups, the state's Legislative Black Caucus, national media, and even the White House. Incidentally, one need look no further than the White House to see the children of any union--even an interracial one--can go as far as their dreams can take them.

T.I. wants 'Tiny & Toya' to take a hike
BET has renewed the contract for the reality series "Tiny & Toya" starring T.I.'s fiancee Tiny Cottle. Word is they are rushing to film as many episodes as possible before T.I.'s release from federal prison next year because T.I. hates the show. He has been made aware of all the negative comments made by bloggers and dislikes how producers allow his woman to be portrayed for ratings. The thing is, doesn't Tiny have creative control? What we see is who they are. That is who he fell in love with. They have remained together over all these years (without a marriage certificate) despite widespread criticism of Tiny's looks and deportment. I think he should be proud she went out and did something for herself.

He Did It For Charity...
Dennis Rodman, winner of 5 NBA Championship Rings, harnessing his inner RuPaul down the runway during the Pink Collection Fashion Show (benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation) in Miami Wednesday night.
Today is everybody's damn birfday!
Linda Brown showed up to a Columbus, Ohio Burlington Coat Factory in a Hummer limo on Tuesday and announced she'd won the lottery and would pay for each person's merchandise up to $500. Well of course as soon as everyone heard that Shug, Poochie, Auntie DeeDee and Hickie and dem was getting calls and texts to jet down to the Burlington for the big give away. Soon the store was packed inside with cashiers ringing up purchases and a line outside to get in.
Turns out Linda Brown didn't have a dime to her name.
So you know what happened then, angry customers realizing they weren't getting free coats, began throwing merchandise on the floor and grabbing clothes without paying for them. Acording to witnesses: "Everybody was like, 'I still want my free stuff,' and that started the riot. It looked like (Hurricane) Katrina went through the store."
Police were called to the store to disperse the crowd, they're reviewing surveillance video to help capture the looters. Ms. Brown was arrested for three outstanding warrants, fraud, changing clothes while committing fraud, inducing panic and definitely not paying the limo driver. But first, she's sitting in K-Ward undergoing a mental health evaluation.

Usher Raymond's 911 Call
According to reports, R & B singer Usher Raymond got into it with his estranged wife Tameka Foster this past weekend over the care of their children. It was Usher's weekend with the two young boys, but he had plans so he left them with his mother (who is also his manager). When his soon-to-be-ex wife Tameka found out about it she went over to his mother's house to retrieve the children because she did not approve of the arrangement. His mother refused to answer the door for the irate woman. Later on, when Usher returned from his engagement, he found his car keyed and his tires slashed. He called 911 to blame it on Tameka. Their breakup just gets uglier and uglier the closer his album release date draws near.
Balloon Boy stunt may have been a hoax
The story of the boy who was thought to have floated away from his family home in a homemade helium balloon gripped the attention of the U.S. yesterday. Now some suspect it may have all been a ploy for media attention. During a live interview with CNN yesterday, the boy in question confesses he heard his parents calling his name during a search of the home and grounds, but failed to answer the calls. He then blurted out his parents said they were doing it "for a show." The boy's father emphatically denies it was all a setup. Local sheriffs plan further investigations into the matter.

Are Serena and Common still together?
Serena looked lovely on the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien last night. I loved the hair, makeup, and shoes. She had a great sense of humor, especially when Jeong started teasing her. I found it very interesting she did not mention Common when Conan asked her if she was seeing anyone.

Throughout my career and life, I have been faced with many challenges, both professionally and personally. Like all of you, I am human, and may have not made the correct decision all the time. And, like anyone else, I would like to think that my entire life or career is not judged by one error or mistake.
It is very easy to criticize someone and I have left myself open to criticism. That is fair. There are plenty of people that will attest that I have done a lot for them. It seems though, that negativity gets more attention than positivity.
All I can say to that, is before you level any further criticism and cynicism, walk in my shoes. I am making this statement to apologize to the people that truly care about me for any angst that this situation has caused, and to thank them for their continued support. I am proud of what I have been able to do for so many others, and would like to let those persons know that I will continue to be there for them no matter what.
I am proud that during my twenty plus years as a pioneer in the Hip-Hop industry, to have opened doors for those who came after me, such as MC Lyte, Salt N Peppa, and Queen Latifah to name a few. I will have no further statement in regards to this matter at this time.”

Leona Lewis Gets Smacked at Book Signing
Leona Lewis was left 'shaken' after being assaulted by a male fan during a signing for her autobiography 'Dreams' at Waterstone's Bookstore on Wednesday. One fan at the scene told the BBC: 'My brother saw the whole incident. He [the attacker] walked up there with the book, she signed it and, as she looked up, he just punched her. Security subdued the assailant, Lewis did not require medical attention, but was visibly upset leaving the store. The singer's second album Echo is scheduled for release in November.

When the individual in the picture at the top, Stephfon Bennett showed up on the doorstep of Diana Martinez, he felt love and she felt she had met him before. Perhaps it was because he just robbed her two hours prior.
Diana Martinez was robbed at gunpoint by three men late that Sunday evening. Imagine attempting to lower your adrenaline level surrounded with trusted loved ones, being a little gun shy at any foreign sounds in your home, when a knock comes upon your door. Is it police coming with information? Is it more concerned friends and family? The pizza delivery guy? Nope, it’s Stephfon Bennett, one of the alleged perpetrators. The Real Housewives still won't get rich
NBC is planning to syndicate all of its Real Housewives franchises in the Fall of 2010, but it won't benefit the ladies of the ATL. Their contract stipulates they are on a reality show as opposed to scripted programming and thus cannot receive royalties from any episodes in syndication.

Ice-T cut up on the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien last night
For some reason, I really like Ice T. despite his past (and continued) pimping, "Cop Killer", and consorting with Superhead aside, I enjoy his acting. Now I can't co-sign on the house shoes and rollers in homeroom, but he seems like a genuine person. What you see is what you get.
The founder of Ben's Chili Bowl has passed away
Ben Ali, founder of world famous Ben's Chili Bowl, favorite chili haunt of Barack and Michelle Obama, passed away a week ago from congestive heart failure at the age of 82. Ali, a native of Trinidad and his then-fiancee founded the landmark restaurant in 1958 after studying dentistry at Howard University. He perfected its signature chili recipe and popular half smokes over the years as the restaurant served foreign dignitaries and regular locals alike. Located on DC's "Black Broadway" as U Street was known, the diner served the likes of Duke Ellington, Dinah Washington, Redd Foxx, Marion Barry, Shaqille O'Neal, and Hillary Rodham Clinton; Bill Cosby courted Camille at Ben's Chili Bowl. Bon Apetite magazine ranked Ben's chili the best in America.

Bill Cosby is producing a rap album called “Bill Cosby Presents the Cosnarati: State of Emergency.” He says the album will contain music by his group, the Cosnarati, which uplifts the Black community and does not demean or degrade women. The group's album premieres in late November, but the project will launch next Monday with a 90-minute live-stream town hall-type discussion.

Tyra Banks unveiled her newly trimmed down body with a photoshoot in NYC on Monday. Two years ago there was a media frenzy when pictures leaked of Banks in a bathing suit bigger than a size 7. Some reports say Banks gained so much weight over the past three years she got up to a size 16. Banks told CNN's Larry King, "When I told the world to kiss my fat ass, I remained that size for two years. I maintained it with my ice cream and my salad with ranch dressing and croutons and bacon bits." Now she wears a size 8 and is feeling fine.

After more than 14 hours of discussion, the heirs of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. reached a settlement late Monday that will keep the family from a public jury trial.
Martin Luther King, III, Bernice King, and Dexter King had aired their grievances in open court for more than a year. The siblings began negotiations Monday morning as the threat loomed of a civil trial that was expected to reveal personal and financial details about King, Inc.
Dexter King's brother and sister sued him in July 2008, accusing him of acting improperly as head of the their father's estate, which the three of them control as a private corporation. In the lawsuit, they claimed he shut them out of decisions involving King Inc. and refused to hold a shareholders meeting since 2004. The three have been largely estranged for months as Martin Luther King, III and Bernice King said their brother continued to make decisions on behalf of King, Inc. without their input or knowledge.
Monday's agreement signals the end of a legal feud among the siblings and could clear the way for private relations to thaw.

I have always liked Nia Long, so I was very surprised to hear her say something so classless. You just don't say things like this on a first date. Who wants to think they are dating a slut? I'm not saying having a 'maintenance man' makes you a slut, but you just don't talk about effing other people on a first date if you want a second one. Her comment was a deal-breaker for Chris. Michael's siblings get cut out of the will again
It has just been revealed that the 40% stake in Michael Jackson's estate left to his mother Katherine Jackson will revert to his three children upon her death. That means Jermaine "Word To The Bad", LaToya "Michael Did It", Randy "Just Sign These Papers", Joe "Don't Make Me Use This Belt", and the rest of the clan won't be able to get their hands on any of the money.
Randy told TMZ "The family is fine with it. Who cares about the money? We have enough money. If I cared about the money, I'd be doing a reality show and doing interviews." Riiiiight...so are we not counting that new Jackson 5 reality show or any of the interviews he's done since June?
"This Is It": This Is Mine
Songwriter/producer "Paul Anka" has reached an agreement with Michael Jackson's estate over the newly released single "This Is It." Anka claims he and Michael co-wrote the song in the 1980's and Michael recorded it in 1991 during his sessions for his Dangerous album. According to Anka, the song was also recorded by a singer named Safire in 1991 and released as "I Never Heard." Producers have arranged at least three versions of the song, the original, a version with Michael's brothers singing backup, and an orchestral arrangement. The latter two will be included on the two-disc companion set for the film This Is It.
Under the terms of the agreement, Anka received an official apology for his omission from the writing credits for the song and he will share in 50% of the publishing rights; Anka, himself, called the omission "an honest mistake" shortly after claiming estate special administrator John McClain told him, "Now we know why the song was so good ... it wasn't the type of Michael Jackson song that he could write." Excuse me?

Mike Tyson made a very emotional appearance on Oprah yesterday. He admitted to slapping former wife Robin Givens, but said the relationship was mutually abusive. (Hmmm, where have we heard that before?) He calls his recently-deceased young daughter his "angel" and confesses he couldn't bear to know the details of her tragic death.

Seal and Heidi had their baby
British crooner Seal and his German supermodel wife Heidi Klum had a baby girl, the fourth one for the couple. Baby Lou was born this past Friday following an induction. Klum recently filed a petition to take on her husband Seal's last name. His full legal name is Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel. The couple's oldest daughter, 5-year-old Helene "Leni" Klum was legally adopted at birth by Seal but is the biological daughter of Klum's ex, Flavio Briatore; the couple haven't said whether or not she will also legally change her name, though it stands to reason the child shouldn't be the only Klum in the household. Their two sons, Henry Gunther Ademola Dashtu Samuel, 3, and Johan Riley Fyodor Taiwo Samuel, 2, already have Seal's last name.

So what if Kanye wasn't there? A lot of other folks were whether they should have been or not. Monica looked fabulous. I love the shoes! I think the real test of just how fierce she is would come when she breaks into a full run in those heels like "Crystal--Like the Champagne." (I know only a few of you will get that one.) Trina looks nice but I have to confess. This chick looks different to me every time I see her. It's something about her face. Too much makeup? Weave changeup? Cosmetic work? I can't put my finger on it. Toccara looks beautiful as usual. That dress is a fail. It looks "discount." I still love her! Now Sheree. Sheree doesn't seem "hip hop" so I'm guessing this awards show was just a photo op for her. I love the shoes and the bag. They scream "stripper" but they are fabulous. That jumpsuit is the opposite of fabulous and a close cousin to ill-thought-out and ill-fitting. I wonder if that is one of her designs.

The International Tennis Association is considering stripping Serena Williams of more than her bikini top after her recent photoshoot for ESPN magazine's body issue. Serena's oiled up nude body made the cover of the magazine and sparked worldwide commentary on her backside as opposed to her back hand. The ITA thinks the photos send the wrong message about professional tennis and is considering fining Serena a half million dollars, stripping her of her Australian Open title, and banning her from the sport for a period of time.
When I first read this my reaction was "EXCUSE me?" I am all for professional associations promoting morality amongst their members, but I think this is going way too far. I understand they have an image to uphold, but this photoshoot was something Serena did on her own time. It was not in conjunction with any tournament. I simply do not see what gives them the right to ban her and strip her title. It's not as if she made a porno with her trophies in full view of the camera
Now, don't get me wrong. I love the cover. I have defended her for doing the cover shot because I think it is artistic and in line with what the other athletes in the issue did with their photos. The topless pic inside the magazine is another story. In my opinion, it is a bit too racy and is better suited for Smooth or King. Individual tastes aside, her pictures are not posed like U.S. Fed Cup winner Ashley Harkleroad (who?) was for Playboy in 2008. I recall absolutely no furor over her being the first tennis player to pose for Hef's magazine.
Quiet as it's (not) kept, many people have wanted Venus and Serena out of the tennis world since they first debuted on the circuit. They are just too good. and too black. Despite a few breakthroughs like Zena Garrison and Arthur Ashe, tennis has traditionally been a lily white sport. When the Williams sisters made the scene they blew their competitors away with their unapologetic style and ability on the court. They endured a lot of racism from other coaches, players, judges, etc. but triumphed nonetheless. They continue to dominate to this day and a lot of people resent it. It think this photoshoot flap is just an excuse to try and get rid of them.

Giants' defensive end, Mathias Kiwanuka along with the Jets' Bart Scott say they would never play for the Rams if right wing radio host Rush Limbaugh buys the team.
"All I know is from the last comment I heard, he said in (President) Obama's America, white kids are getting beat up on the bus while black kids are chanting 'right on,'" declared Kiwanuka . "I mean, I don't want anything to do with a team that he has any part of. He can do whatever he wants, it is a free country. But if it goes through, I can tell you where I am not going to play."

Michael Jackson's First Single Premieres Tonight
The first song from the documentary "This Is It" will premiere online tonight. If you are a nightowl, log onto http://www.michaeljackson.com/ at midnight tonight. The song will be included on the two-disc companion CD set also titled "This Is It" and it plays during the closing sequence of the film. The film opens nationwide October 28th.
