NYC wants to control what you eat
New York City used to be known as the city where you can see anything, be anything, do anything, and EAT anything you want to. Now, following on the heels of its health initiatives like counting calories on menus and banning trans fats, the city's health department aims to reduce the sodium content of food sold within its boroughs by 25% over the next 5 years. According to their statitstics, the average American currently consumes twice the recommended daily intake of sodium. Elevated sodium intake has been linked to hypertension, heart attacks, and strokes.

Production costs vary by location, but the $1 double cheeseburger typically costs franchisees at least $1.10. It is estimated the promotion increased restaurant traffic by as much as 20%, but 90% of franchise owners have tried to avoid selling the product.

The founder of Ben's Chili Bowl has passed away

He perfected its signature chili recipe and popular half smokes over the years as the restaurant served foreign dignitaries and regular locals alike. Located on DC's "Black Broadway" as U Street was known, the diner served the likes of Duke Ellington, Dinah Washington, Redd Foxx, Marion Barry, Shaqille O'Neal, and Hillary Rodham Clinton; Bill Cosby courted Camille at Ben's Chili Bowl.
