Michael Jackson's furniture is being auctioned off

According to TMZ (not the most reliable source), Michael ordered $700,000 worth of furniture from Italian designer, Colombostile, for his London mansion he was to use during his “This Is It” tour. Since the items were not delivered due to his passing, the company reportedly returned the money to Mrs. Katherine. They have opted instead, to auction off the furniture instead. Everyone is trying to trade on his name. $700,000 is a LOT of furniture! Michael was living large!

Jay-Z and Beyonce top Forbes' list of highest earners

Jay-Z and Beyonce topped Forbes' lastest list of the highest-earning couples in entertainment, bringing in an estimated collective $122 million last year.  It would be nice to hear they donated a lot of that money to charities and non-profits in the style of Michael Jackson and Oprah rather than bragging about buying a $70 ro $80,000 purse.  One can only hope.

The devastation in Haiti continues

The devastation in Haiti continues to spread as the poor island nation goes yet another day without food, water, shelter, medicine, or the means to search for and treat wounded survivors of Tuesday evening's massive 7.0 earthquake. Aid organizations estimate as many as 500,000 may have lost their lives in this latest of Haiti's endless string of natural disasters. Everywhere the eye can see there is destruction: buildings collapsed, the wounded walking and wandering, dead strewn in the streets. Clinics are so overrun the wounded lay beneath makeshift tents made from bloody sheets. The presidential palace crumbled leaving the Haitian president just as homeless as the people he governs. The Catholic Archbishop is dead, a victim of the collapse of the Port-au-Prince cathedral.

Pray for Haiti

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince yesterday devastating the streets of the metropolis more than 3 million people call home.  It was the strongest earthquake to hit the Caribbean nation in more than 200 years.  The tremors demolished thousands of buildings ranging from lean-to's and shacks to the Presidential Palace, which was apparently at the epicenter of the quake.  The U.N. peacekeeping headquarters were also destroyed and the head of the peacekeeping mission is thought to be among the dead.  The quake cut off communications to and within the island so it is impossible to determine the extent of the damage or the number of missing and dead at this time.

She bust the windows out my car....

(returning to black folks news...)
Remember when Usher accused his ex Tameka of defacing his GMC Yukon parked in his driveway just before she got served 'papers'?
Well right before Christmas that same SUV was broken into on Dec. 14th when Urrrshh and another man stopped in an AT&T store near the Lenox Mall, reports Fox 5 in the ATL (why this took a month to report, ya got me they must Sky Tel the reports)

Usher claims the car contained $1 million of jewelry plus $50,000 in furs and clothing.

A witness told police they saw a man get out of a burgundy Chevy Impala that looked a lot like Tameka with tinted windows and pop open the door to the SUV, making off with the goods.

A source also told Fox 5 that the “YEAH” singer was particularly upset about two laptops that were stolen because they contained new songs that he’s been working on to replace music from his new cd that has already been leaked on the internet .

Gatorade unveils a new Tiger-inspired label

Gatorade was one of the first sponsors to drop Tiger Woods as a sponsor after his multiple mistress sex scandal hit the newswires.  Now, it seems Gatorade is adding salt to his (golf club inflicted) wounds.  Bottles of Gatorade bearing labels saying "Un Faithful" have begun appearing on store shelves in Denver, Colorado.  The company has sought to have the renegade bottles pulled from shelves saying they must be the work of a prankster.

Should Sen. Reid resign because of his racial remarks?

U.S. Senator Harry Reid is taking considerable heat in the fallout of revelations of racial remarks he ade about then Presidential candidate, Barak Obama in 2008.  Reid, in a private conversation during the presidential race, said "I can still remember the meeting that took place in my office with Sen. Barack Obama, telling him that I think he can be elected president"

A new book quotes Reid, D-Nevada, as saying privately in 2008 that Obama could be successful as a black candidate in part because of his "light-skinned" appearance and speaking patterns "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

A number of prominent African Americans have come to Sen. Reid's defense including Attorney General Eric Holder and NAACP President Julian Bond.  President Obama has come out in defense of Reid saying he has always been on the right side of history, has supported him (Obama) from the beginning, and that he is a good man.

After years of denying it, Mark McGuire finally admitted he used steroids and human growth hormone for 10 years(like we didn't know already), including the year he shattered the home run record.  That year he battled it out with Sammy Sosa for the record.  You also might recall he testified before Congress saying he never used any banned substances.

Simon Cowell has announced this will be his last season on American Idol.  He plans to bring his popular British show, the 'X' Factor, to the United States and act as its executive producer.

Former Republican Vice Presidential Candidate, proud non-elitist/maverick (read ignant and proud of it), and enemy of moose everywhere, Sarah Palin will be joining Faux Fox News.  For some this is yet another reason to never land on that station.

NYC wants to control what you eat

New York City used to be known as the city where you can see anything, be anything, do anything, and EAT anything you want to.  Now, following on the heels of its health initiatives like counting calories on menus and banning trans fats, the city's health department aims to reduce the sodium content of food sold within its boroughs by 25% over the next 5 years.  According to their statitstics, the average American currently consumes twice the recommended daily intake of sodium.  Elevated sodium intake has been linked to hypertension, heart attacks, and strokes.

Denzel and Will to remake 'Uptown Saturday Night?'

Denzel Washington and Will Smith are reportedly in discussions to remake the 1974 film "Uptown Saturday Night," which starred Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby as two friends who sneak out of their homes to visit a legendary - yet illegal - nightclub.

When the place is inevitably held up and their wallets are stolen, the duo must recover a winning lottery ticket that was sitting in Cosby's wallet.

Humor Mill Magazine is reporting that Will Smith bought the rights to the film in 2002 and has been trying to remake it ever since. Eddie Murphy was approached early on, but a deal with the superstar was never worked out. Denzel apparantly has now expressed interest in the "Uptown" remake and in starring alongside with Smith.
