Usher Filed for Divorce--No, for real this time!
The other day I posted InTouch Weekly reported Usher had filed for divorce in Atlanta. The day after that, the blogosphere was abuzz because other news sources claimed the document could not be located in the courthouse. Now the Associated Press, which is about as respectable as you can get, is reporting Usher filed for divorce in Atlanta, but on Friday.
They have two young sons, 1 1/2-year-old Usher Raymond V and 6-month-old Naviyd Ely Raymond. His wife has three children from a previous marriage. Usher opened up to the AP about how negative publicity from bloggers afected his relationship.
"People are so attracted to drama. That's easier to take than a story of righteousness," Usher said at the time...I decided to marry this woman, then I decide to be a father to my child," he said. "... It's not like I got caught with a gram of coke in my car or speeding or was caught for murder, so why would I be ridiculed, that's why I don't understand -- that's the part that is mind boggling. Why would I be ridiculed for that, even a year later."

DJ Jazzy Jeff Speaks Out About His Kansas Incident
This past weekend DJ Jazzy Jeff of DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince fame had his set cut short in Kansas City's famed Power & Light District. 15 minutes into his set, hwich included songs by T.I. and Jay-Z, Jeff was told to leave the stage. According to his road manager Darnell Jenkins, the venue's operations manager told them, "We don't play that type of music here." PLD officials countered with statements saying Jazzy Jeff's set was too loud and would have damaged equipment.
This morning, DJ Jazzy Jeff issued statements to the press saying the whole incident stemmed from censorship rather than racism. The Power & Light District has received criticism in the past for instituting dress codes deemed by some to purposely exclude African Americans from their establishments.

I have no idea what she means by 'sleep with that man in you', but I know Monique has made statements before in Essence (July 2006) about having an open marriage. In Monique's opinion, it isn't cheating if your partner knows about it. It makes you wonder if she was pressured into accepting this swinger arrangement in order to stay married. It also makes you wonder if her self-esteem is really as high as she would have you believe in light of her recent weight loss; she lost the weight because of something her husband said to her, not because of any initial internal motivation.

Mourners Paid Tribute to Koko Taylor Yesterday
Mayor Richard Daley and musicians Delores Scott and Vance Kelly were among the mourners that paid tribute to the "Queen of the Blues" as she lay in a glass-topped casket at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition headquarters on Chicago's South Side. Taylor's
dream as a child to become a blues singer was nurtured in the cotton fields outside her family's sharecropper shack outside of Memphis, Tenn.
"I used to listen to the radio, and when I was about 18 years old, B.B. King was a disc jockey and he had a radio program, 15 minutes a day, over in West Memphis, Arkansas and he would play the blues," she said. "I would hear different records and things by Muddy Waters, Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie, Sonnyboy Williams and all these people, you know, which I just loved."
Her work included the best-selling song "Wang Dang Doodle" and tunes such as "What Kind of Man is This" and "I Got What It Takes." She earned seven Grammy nominations and won in 1984. Following another wake at Rianbow/PUSH headquarters, the Rev. Jesse Jackson will eulogize her.
Chris Brown is receiving death threats
The Chicago Sun-Times reports Chris Brown is the target of death threats from radical feminist groups. Statements from one group in particular, the Women's Protection Action League, has been particularly disturbing for authorities. Brown is said to be "paranoid" and has beefed up his security in anticipation of the trial.
Speaking of the trial, Rihanna has been formally subpoenad to testify in Los Angeles Superior Court on June 22nd in the case against Chris Brown. “Rihanna was served at my office by L.A. DA investigators. If the preliminary hearing indeed goes forward, she is now legally required to be there, she will be there, and will answer all questions truthfully," said her lawyer, Donald Etra.
Mos Def wants to throw down for Nola
Mos Def announced Wednesday a plan to help raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina. He wants to host an international event with entertainers having dancing, singing, stepping, and rap battles. He was especially excited when he issued a challenge pitting himself, Talib Kweli, and other members of the consciousness crew against heavy hitters Jay-Z, Kanye West, and others. Cocktail revealed via her MySpace page she and Ray J are no longer together and that he dumped her.
So most of you have seen photos floating around with me and a guy who is obviously not Ray and I want to clear some things up. When I was on the show, I truly fell for Ray...But the reality of reality television is that it doesn’t always work. Ray and I are no longer together. We have not been together for awhile now but we have remained friends and when we hang out we have a great time...As for the tour we just did and “acting” like we were together, it comes with the show...But at the end of the day I wasn’t the right person for Ray and although it hurt me at least he was honest about the situation before it went any further.

Slash's Mom Passed Away
Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash's mother, Ola Hudson, passed away on Friday, June 5th from lung cancer. Mrs. Hudson, a costume designer, dressed some of the biggest names in rock-n-roll including John Lennon and Ringo Starr of the Beatles, Diana Ross, the Pointer Sisters, and David Bowie whom she dated for a time. Ms. Hudson is survived by Slash, whose real name is Saul Hudson, his younger brother Ash Hudson, and her ex-husband artist Anthony Hudson. Slash said of his family in a Rolling Stone interview, "I come from a very loving and supportive family, thank God. I could be a lot worse than I am now."

Two appeals court judges in Malawi have reversed their decision and decided to allow Madonna to adopt a 4-year-old girl. Chifundo "Mercy" James will join her older brother David, whom Madonna adopted from Malawi several years ago. Madonna has an older daughter from a previous relationship with Carlos Leon and a young son from her marriage to British filmmaker Guy Ritchie.

Urgent HELP needed!!!!
My blog is acting up and I need help. The new posts today caused my sidebar to move to the very bottom of the page. I added then deleted a poll and suspect that caused this problem. I don't like having the sidebar at the bottom and want to change it back. I have checked the HTML code in my posts and in my template but can't find the problem. Do any of you readers know HTML enough to possibly fix this problem? I have been told there may be a remnant of bad code in the images or the widgets somewhere.

Ray Nagin Has Been Quarantined In China
New Orleans Mayor, Ray Nagin, his wife, and a security guard have been detained in Shanghai, China because a passenger on their flight exhibited symptoms of the H1N1 "Swine" flu virus. The Nagins have not exhibited any symptoms themselves. Nagin became known nationwide during the Hurricane Katrina disaster when he told President Bush and the federal government to "get off your asses" and send much-needed help to the ravaged city. Nagin travelled to Shanghai on an economic development trip.
Chris Brown's Case May Suffer
Chris Brown's assault trial is set to begin later this month, but his defense may suffer from divided attention. His attorney, Mark Geragos, flew to Thailand this weekend to represent the interests of deceased actor David Carradine's family in the investigation into his untimely death. The family refuses to accept either suicide or the widely-speculated auto-erotic asphyxiation theory as the cause of death for the actor. David Carradine, star of the Kill Bill series, was reported found in his Thai hotel room hanging naked with a rope around his neck, wrist, and genitals. They family has also asked the FBI to investigate in the case.
