DJ Jazzy Jeff Speaks Out About His Kansas Incident
This past weekend DJ Jazzy Jeff of DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince fame had his set cut short in Kansas City's famed Power & Light District. 15 minutes into his set, hwich included songs by T.I. and Jay-Z, Jeff was told to leave the stage. According to his road manager Darnell Jenkins, the venue's operations manager told them, "We don't play that type of music here." PLD officials countered with statements saying Jazzy Jeff's set was too loud and would have damaged equipment.
This morning, DJ Jazzy Jeff issued statements to the press saying the whole incident stemmed from censorship rather than racism. The Power & Light District has received criticism in the past for instituting dress codes deemed by some to purposely exclude African Americans from their establishments.

Who in the HELL is paying to go see Jazzy Jeff in 2009?
ReplyDeleteJeff is wack and he knows it. They probably threw him out because he was wack on the mic.
ReplyDelete....Jazzy is actually widely respected as a dj, remixer and producer (although I can't name anyone he's done lately HA!HA!), it just makes you wonder what the club manager thought he was gonna play, Lady GaGa or some bs....
ReplyDeleteThey were hoping for ColdPlay obviously
ReplyDeleteDont dis jazzy Jef that man is a legend. He has done mad work has mad platinum plaques and has done stuff with a lot of people, ie Jill Scott, Musiq. Why would they hire Jazzy Jeff to spin ad tell him not to play hip-hop. The man won the first ever rap grammy. he is a hip-hop dj. They had to have known that. I dont wanna pull the race card, but ish like this makes it hard not to.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes me mad is he is saying it wasn't about race when we all know it was. They told him to play to 40 but most of the top 40 is rap and hip hop.
