I think her conduct was certainly unsportsmanlike and less that what I would expect from one of the Williams sisters. They know they have always had to be better than everyone else in the sport just to be accepted and respected. I remember when other players did not want to change in the same locker room with them and complained constantly about their outfits, on court grunts, and the beads in their hair.
At the end of the day, I can understand, if not condone, Serena's outburst because the judge was incorrect. Not only did Serena lose the point on the judge's bad call, she lost another point which cost her the match. She was fined $10,000 and of course is out of the running for the title and prize money. The outburst may affect some of her endorsements and there is talk of further sanctions. All of this is a bit much considering the notorious conduct of Bobby Knight and John McEnroe. McEnroe had outbursts like this virtually every time he played.

ReplyDeleteSerena could have rallied back and won. That is not the point. The umpire made a bad call and Serena spoke up about it. That girl should not have beat Serena like that. Serena is the best out ther.
ReplyDeleteThey only came down on her because she is Black. If any of the white girls had blew up they would have checked the tapes or something and gotten on the judge. This is bullshit.

ReplyDeleteSerena just cracked under pressure. She is a fantastic tennis player and is generally classier than this. I guess it got to her that the judge made an obviously wrong call. She had a lot of money at stake. I hope this blows over and doesn't affect her endorsements.
ReplyDeleteThey were out to get Serena. That was a bogus call and a bogus decision by the judge to penalizer her again. They rarely call foot faults anymore except against the Williams sisters. I say if John MacEnroe can throw a tantrum like a 2 year old then so can Serena.
