Magazine publishers know a surefire way to move issues in this economy is to put Michael Jackson on the cover and GQ is no exception. The magazine features Michael on its upcoming September 2009 issue with the tagline "When Michael Was Cool." Former Def Jam exec. and ex-beau of Michael's sister Janet, Jermaine Dupri, took umbrage to backhanded compliment to the late King of Pop.
"HOT COVER WACK AZZ TITLE. SEE THIS IS THE SHIT THAT PISSES ME OFF PEOPLE WANNA USE THIS MAN TO MAKE THEM MONEY BUT CONTINUE TO THROW LIL SNEAK DISSES. AS FAR AS ANY FAN WOULD SAY, HE WAS COOL HIS WHOLE LIFE. I SAY THAT BECAUSE THE FANS ARE THE ONES THAT’S GONNA MAKE THIS COVER SELL 3 TIMES MORE MAGAZINES THAN THE LAST ONE SO WHY TITLE IT THIS?"
I happen to agree with JD. Members of the media have been talking slick about Michael for years; the sly criticism and denial of his musical and philanthropic contributions has increased exponentially since his passing. I for one, intend fire off a letter to the editor at GQ. (I write a lot of letters, both positive and negative, to a lot of companies; some companies ignore you, but you would be surprised at the responses I have gotten.) I think it is ridiculous the story would repeat the completely unfounded claims of Ian Halperin as well as shore up Martin Bashir's Satan-like deceptive journalistic tactics.
You are right. A lot of news shows keep slipping in sly little comments about Michael. They keep saying he was a molester and couldn't father children and he was crazy etc. He definitely wasn't crazy and was acquitted on those charges. So why does it keep coming up? I read this long story in GQ. The journalist would say 1 nice thing followed by 3 not so nice things. He needs to just shut up.
ReplyDeleteI'm so tired of people saying bad things about Michael. I think people should only be allowed to sing his songs or to do a tribute. All this other stuff is just slander.
ReplyDeleteI agree totally with you and JD. The media scutinized the man to death. Still to this day he is called a child molester which most of us know is not true. On the day he died some old bat was talking greasy about Michael with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC. I mean, you would have thought she knew him personally and saw things first hand with the way she commenting. No respect at all. It is a shame a talent such as Michael is being ridiculed instead of being revered and honored respectfully. The man is in the Guiness Book of World Records for being the most charitable celebrity as well as for sales of Thriller.
ReplyDeleteFaux news had the audacity to ask if the media was too respectful of Michael Jackson. Can you believe this? Had this panel of other racists discussing the topic and, of course, an old geezer with a turkey waddle mentions him being an "accused child molester". Nothing is going to change history. He still beat Elvis...most of THEM just need to get over it.
And that's the main issue. White people refuse to accept he is more rich and famous than Elvis or any of their other stars. They can't stand that HE of all people married Elvis' daughter. They keep bringing up that child molestation BS like the trial is supposed to go on forever. He was acquitted!
