Whitney's voice cracked for her public debut in Central Park. Three songs into her four song set, Whitney blamed an interview with Oprah the day before for straining her voice. (No word about the years of alleged crack use contributing to the problems.)
Whitney delivered her songs with confidence, but hid behind her backup singers and the audience to sing the chorus on "Million Dollar Bill." The old Whitney would have soared on a ballad like "I Look to You" but this time she broke off her notes before their natural completion and spoke/sang rather than belted out the verses as we might expect from the Queen of the power ballad. Anyone who has heard any of her new recordings should have expected this. Whitney's voice is less creamy and huskier than it was in her heyday. Still, the CD delivers and is a sure hit with all the hype surrounding her comeback.

Whitney better stop with that mess. She knows cigarettes and crack rock did that to her voice.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Whitney wasn't ready for this comeback.
ReplyDeleteAH MAN, I HAVEN'T HEARD THE CD YET, BUT I WAS WONDERING HOW HER VOICE SOUNDED. THAT'S DISSAPOINTING BECAUSE I WANTED TO HEAR THE OLD WHITNEY, BUT JUST LIKE ANON SAID, THAT'S CIGARETTES AND CRACK, NOT JUST TALKING.
