Halloween came early for some

Halloween came early for some people: Is it just me, or was Mel B. channeling Real Housewives of Atlanta's Kim Z. at the London launch for Glaceau Vitamin Water Triple XXX Berry Drink? That wig is a hot mess. In true diva fashion, Scary Spice wore several wigs and three different dresses at the event. Gotta keep her name in the blogs...

Mariah is back to her old self

Reportedly, the little sit down her Precious director had little lasting effect. Mariah is back to being a diva in full effect demanding six-figure compensation for her hair and make-up staff in addition to her regular appearance, travel, and expense fees. She travels with a huge entourage including a crack security team. Her security team is required to make daily 'sweeps' of the performance venue in the days leading up to her appearances with the 'sweeps' and 'intelligence-gathering' reaching a fever pitch the day of her arrival. Reportedly, she also demands the venue remove its employees and restrict backstage entry to her own personnel. If these rumors are true, she is no angel, imperfect or otherwise. Bring back humble Mariah!

Mariah told to drop the diva act

Director Lee Daniels had to warn Mariah Carey to drop the diva act if she wanted to participate in the movie Precious. Daniels told Mariah to leave all her star trappings at home. "If you come with a strip of makeup on," he recalls telling her, "I will have a backup (actress). I knew that she would be out of her safety zone, and I knew that there would be no one for her to rely on, to say, 'Get me this, get me that,'" he said. "I could see in her eyes... 'What is Lee doing to me?'" Daniels stripped down the Imperfect Angel's image so much she is said to have disappeared into the role; all you see is the dowdy social worker, not the mega-selling, Grammy Award-winning superstar.



For her part, Carey was greatful for the challenge. "That was such a freeing experience for me," she said. "By making me look so bad he brought out the ability to never be self-conscious again, and that was a gift that he gave me."

Beyonce gave the boot to Lindsay

Lindsay Lohan hosted the F1 Rocks concert series on Singapore over the weekend. The show featured The Black Eyed Peas and Gwen Stefani, but the real star of the show was Beyonce--and she let everyone know it. Reportedly, Beyonce requested the largest dressing area when she arrived at the venue, but it had already been claimed by Lindsay. Lindsay's star has been fading inversely to her bad attitude, so when Bey requested the area, sources say Lindsay was told to pack up and relocate. In my opinion, Beyonce was just being a diva. I mean where else did she expect Lindsay to put all her coke? She does drink Coca-Cola, doesn't she? ;-)

Tyra is a diva

When asked why fellow supermodels Paula Porzikova and Janice DICKerson did not last on the America's Next Top Model show, Tyra did not really have an explanation. Allegedly, both models were dismissed as judges shortly after having production disagreements with Tyra, the show's creator. The real reason is, Tyra is a diva and there can only be one real diva (sorry Ms. J) on set at a time. Whatever the issues were, it was Tyra's show and her call. Janice went on to have her own show where she (IMO) treated her employees and models very poorly. I really don't see her appeal as a model, then or now. As for Paula, I hope she saved those checks.

I was reluctant to watch this show because, while I consider some of the performers to be very good, I do not think any of them have paid the dues to be considered a true diva. I certainly balk at the idea of bestowing the title "diva" (with the positive connotation) on a teenager. Aretha Franklin is a diva. Whitney Houston is a diva. Celine Dion is a diva. Miley Cyrus and Jordin Sparks are NOT divas. Still, the show had some very good performances.

Paula Abdul hosted (thank you Vh1 for giving her a job) and almost fell off the stage during her performance. (Way to dispel those drinking rumors, Paula.) She also lampooned her American Idol replacement, Ellen DeGeneres, by donning menswear and a blonde wig and dancing around. It was good times, I tell ya.

Whitney Makes Return in London

For much of this decade Whitney Houston has been out of the spotlight, fighting to get her once charmed life back under control.But as she arrived in Britain last night it seemed the tide had finally turned for the soul singer. Gone was the gaunt and ravaged figure of recent years, replaced by a polished professional as she launched her new album at the upmarket Mandarin Oriental Hotel in London's Knightsbridge.

The record is her first studio performance for seven years. Tracks have already been leaked on the internet, where they have met with a mixed response, some saying her voice has been ruined. But music mogul Clive Davis, who discovered the soul diva 25 years ago, disagrees.'You won't forget it after you hear it,' he said on Good Morning America, calling the album a labour of love for all involved. 'She tumbled but she didn't crumble'. Her much anticipated new album (well, not so much by me), “I Look to You” is due out Sept. 1.
