The Memphis Grizzlies announced yesterday that the strained one-year contract with 10-time All-Star and former league MVP Allen Iverson has ended after he played only three games. After the AP quoted owner Michael Heisley last week saying the team would "gladly" trade Iverson if a better prospect came along, The Grizzlies insist Iverson's departure is a mutual decision. He officially began an indefinite leave of absence on Nov. 7 to deal with "a personal issue".

General Manager chris Wallace released a statement saying, “Because of personal matters that forced him to leave the team on November 7, Allen will step away from the game at this time, allowing him to focus on those matters. As a result, we will be ending our contractual agreement with Allen, which will allow both parties to move forward. We wish Allen the best.”

  1. I wonder if that 'personal issue' has to do with his wifey? They are forever having marital problems.

  4. AI is such a jerk. They probably got tired of him and didn't even want his ass to play. Money be damned.

  5. You know he's not a team player. In a team sport you have to be a team player and he's not. Now he's paying for it. Nobody wants him and he's injured and warms the bench most of the time anyway.

  6. Iverson's career is over. The Grizzlies did him a favor by signing his washed up ass and he repayed them by being a total pain in the ass to work with. That's why they couldn't wait to get rid of him.
