In another historic moment

In another historic moment at the Oscars on Sunday, a woman won the Best Director category for the first time; Katherine Bigelow won for her Iraq War movie, The Hurt Locker, over her ex-husband James Cameron. Now, many critics had pegged Cameron to win, but you know there was a contingent of viewers who were hoping the award would go to Lee Daniels for Precious. Besides, you know the Academy voted for Hillary. The studio has not yet announced the DVD release date.

Gabourey Sidibe graces the latest issue of Ebony

Oscar Nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe, better known as Precious from the movie of the same title, was honored with the cover of the lates issue of Ebony.  Gabby discussed her views on Hollywood, other's perceptions of her, and her plans for the future:

“I don’t try to live up to the standards of Hollywood or any of that – I know that I’m different and I celebrate it. In a weird way, I kind of really, really love being the alien in the room. I dig it...I would like to be funny in a film, or I’d like to be a romantic lead. They’re all dream roles. There’s nothing specifically that I want, I just want everything.”

Precious was nominated for 5 Oscars

Including Best Director, Best Actress, Best Adapted Screen Play, Best Movie and Best Supporting Actress (Mo' is actually getting an Oscar y'all)...

Mo'nique gets her acting props at the Golden Globes

Mo'nique won a best-supporting actress award at the Golden Globes last night for her portrayal of an abusive mother in Precious.  She also picked up a best supporting actress award for the same role Friday night at the Critic's Choice Awards.  Mo'nique gave a tearful, heartfelt thanks to the film's director Lee Daniels Friday night, bringing tears to his eyes as well.  These two awards only serve to heighten the Oscar buzz for all those involved with the film.

Precious earned 8 NAACP Image Awards nominations

The movie Precious earned a leading eight NAACP Image Awards nominations, including nominations for  for director Lee Daniels, lead actress Gabourey Sidibe and supporting actors Mariah Carey, Mo’Nique, Paula Patton and Lenny Kravitz. Mariah Carey's moustache received the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in 'Precious' at the Hollywood International Film Festival in Capri. She took home the award for her unglamorous role as a welfare case worker in the film and is poised to get the "Breakthrough" award at the Palm Springs film festival next month. The entire cast is also up for an ensemble SAG award.
