D.A. seeks the death penalty in the Vernon Forrest case

A grand jury has indicted three men in the murder of professional boxer Vernon Forrest and the Fulton County D.A. Paul Howard is seeking the death penalty against all three of them. “When you kill somebody in Fulton County in such a senseless and brutal way, the system ... is going to hold you accountable,” he said. “I mean, this guy was shot seven or eight times in the back. Three times, we believe, he was laying on the ground.”

Forrest, 38, died July 25 after he was robbed at gunpoint at a gas station in Southwest Atlanta. Authorities assert Forrest pursued the robber, believed to be Demario Ware, and then was shot seven times in the back by Charmon Sinkfield, according to the press release. Crews is believed to have driven the getaway car, Howard said. Forrest's championship ring and diamond Rolex wristwatch were stolen during the robbery.

Suspect arrested in Vernon Forrest's murder

Police have arrested a suspect in the killing of boxing champion Vernon Forrest. Demario Ware, 20, turned himself in to police on Tuesday and is being held in the Fulton County jail on charges of murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault, according to an Atlanta Police spokesperson.

Forrest, 38, was shot in July after being robbed at a gas station by a man who asked him for money then snatched his wallet.

Man I had a nightmare last nite I dreamt I come home and found 4 guys
were breaking into my house. I pull my heater and it was empty they chased me
and was about to shot me then I woke up. The first thing I did was get my heater
and made sure it was loaded. That dream will not come true.
