Sports teams ban web 2.0

Seven NFL teams are throwing the penalty flag at Twitter and other social networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace. The Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, and Detroit Lions are prohibiting players, fans and media at training-camp practices from tweeting, blogging or texting.

The teams worry that even short posts or tweets could opponents valuable information on team lineups, injuries, and plays. Miami coach Tony Sparano (why do I read Tony Soprano every time I see his name?) said, “Our policy here is that our information is our information, and it should stay in-house. Something they think is innocent can really hurt an individual, can really hurt team chemistry, and maybe can lead to somewhere down the road a loss of a game.”

  1. This is a good idea. Next all kinds of employers are going to ban it. As long as they don't ban blogs I'm ok. If they ban blogs I may have to find some other means to support myself. (maybe blogging)
