Cracker Barrel Attack-ATL
Clayton County prosecutors said Wednesday they are trying to have felony charges reinstated against a man who attacked an Army reservist in front of her child outside a Morrow Cracker Barrel.
A judge dropped a felony child cruelty charge against Troy D. West, Jr. He was released from the Clayton County jail Friday -- two days after being arrested for striking Tashawnea Hill in front of her 7-year-old daughter.
District Attorney Tracy Graham Lawson said she may file felony charges against West. "We're reviewing the police reports and talking to witnesses to determine whether felony charges should be presented to the grand jury," Lawson said Wednesday.
West, 47, is charged with battery, disorderly conduct and cruelty to children -- all misdemeanors. He is also the subject of an FBI investigation for committing a possible a hate crime. Police said West, who is white, yelled racial slurs at Tashawnea Hill as he was kicking and punching her in the head.
The attack occurred as Hill and her daughter were leaving the Morrow restaurant and West was heading inside, Morrow Police Capt. James Callaway said. Hill told West to be careful after the restaurant door came close to striking her child, Callaway said. That's when West became enraged and attacked the woman, police said.
“She kept saying, ‘Sir, I’m a United States soldier, don’t do this,’ ” Callaway said. On Wednesday, the Atlanta office of the FBI said they have launched a "preliminary" investigation for a possible hate crime, at the request of Morrow Police.
West told Morrow police he became upset because Hill spit on him after accusing him of trying to hit her daughter, according to the police report. But several witnesses said they never saw Hill spit on West.
West remains free on a $12,500 bond. He is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 28. West runs Troy's Paint & Body & Auto Salvage in Poulan, which is in south Georgia near Albany.
We are in no way advocating violence, but perhaps you might want to write a letter to the district attorney's office, the local chamber of commerce, or the Better Business Bureau to let them know how you feel about this case.

Did you watch the VH1 Divas concert
I was reluctant to watch this show because, while I consider some of the performers to be very good, I do not think any of them have paid the dues to be considered a true diva. I certainly balk at the idea of bestowing the title "diva" (with the positive connotation) on a teenager. Aretha Franklin is a diva. Whitney Houston is a diva. Celine Dion is a diva. Miley Cyrus and Jordin Sparks are NOT divas. Still, the show had some very good performances.
Paula Abdul hosted (thank you Vh1 for giving her a job) and almost fell off the stage during her performance. (Way to dispel those drinking rumors, Paula.) She also lampooned her American Idol replacement, Ellen DeGeneres, by donning menswear and a blonde wig and dancing around. It was good times, I tell ya.

Unsealed Court Documents Reveal Allowance From Michael Jackson's Estate to Mother and Children
Michael Jackson's mother is receiving $86,804 per month from her son's estate to support herself and her three grandchildren, according to court records released Thursday.
Katherine Jackson is one of the primary beneficiaries of her son's estate along with the late pop singer's three young children and unnamed charities.
Over the course of a year, Jackson's mother and children are slated to receive more than $1 million in support from the estate. Katherine Jackson's monthly allowance is $26,804; the children's allowance is $60,000 per month.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff approved a monthly stipend for Katherine Jackson and her three grandchildren in August. The amount of the payments had been sealed until Thursday.
Katherine Jackson has been named the children's permanent guardian. They are currently living at the Jackson family home, Hayvenhurst, located in the San Fernando Valley.
Katherine Jackson's $26,804 per month pays for an assistant, housekeeper, driver, utilities, clothing, grooming and other expenses.

Mariah: I don’t even know who that is. [Laughter] I wrote the song and I’m very happy with it. And I’m happy with my new album. So I don’t know if somebody wants to write their little songs. I haven’t heard them on the radio, I don’t know what’s going on with that. They don’t seem to play them here in America. I’m not sure so I don’t know.

Cheronda, Cheronda, Cheronda...
Meet Cheronda Guyton. She worked for Wells Fargo as a senior vice president responsible for managing the bank's foreclosed properties. Well, it seems one of Bernie Madoff's devastated victims signed their Malibu home over to Wells Fargo to satisfy a debt. Good ole' Cheronda decides to cop a squat in the property, give lavish parties and keep them going by not putting the desirable beachfront home on the market.
Neighbors (Mrs. Kravitz) in the Malibu neighborhood, which counts actor Tom Hanks among its residents, said they saw Guyton’s family staying at the house and that Guyton apparently hosted a party in August at which guests were ferried to the beach house from a yacht offshore.
In a statement yesterday, Wells Fargo said its internal investigation concluded that "a single team member was responsible for violating our company policies. As a result, employment of this individual has been terminated."

Retailer's Stunt puts NYPD on Alert.....
An offbeat marketing gimmick slated for this week may have landed Burlington Coat Factory in hot water with New York’s Finest.
The discount retailer plans to leave 500 unattended messenger bags around lower Manhattan Wednesday and Thursday to promote the opening of its new “store in a store” concept, the Factory. Each bag will contain a gift card worth up to $500 and feature a tag on the outside identifying it as a “gift” from Burlington Coat Factory.
Maybe unattended bags are no big deal in Burlington, NJ — home of the company’s headquarters — but eight years after the 9/11 attacks, with the MTA’s “If you see something, say something” slogan still in full effect, these totes are likely to set off some serious red flags. The NYPD is aware of the promotion and say if they keep the bags off public property everythang will be everythang.
Hope noone thinks like I think.

For once, Kanye was speechless
Just by sheer luck, Jay scheduled an appearance by Kanye, Jay-Z, and Rihanna to perform their newest hit "Run This town." After Kanye's antics Sunday night, Leno's people must have been salivating at the ratings bonanza from having Kanye on there. Kanye asked Leno if he could make some impromptu remarks about the incident at the VMA's. Kanye came on and, I believe, sincerely apologized for taking the stage and hurting Taylor Swift. When Leno asked him what his mother would have thought about all of it, Kanye choked up and became speechless. The entire studio was dead silent for almost a minute. I believe Kanye was sincere because he figeted throughout the entire interview and appeared on the verge of tears after Leno brought up his mother. He appeared without his sunglasses and without his coat. He looked like a small child who had been sent to the principal's office and threatened with a call to his parents. It was uncomfortable to watch at home and, I'm sure, uncomfortable for Leno as well. Kanye reiterated again he has not taken any time off from the music business since his mother passed; he vowed to take some time and reevaluate his plans for the future. I sincerely hope he takes a good hard look at the direction his life has taken and makes some serious changes in his own attitude, actions, and entourage.
Patrick Swayze passed away
Actor Patrick Swayze passed away yesterday at the age of 57. He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer. Swayze was catapulted to fame in the movie Dirty Dancing in 1987. The movie spawned a cultural phenomenon with traveling revues and Dirty Dancing parties all over the world. He followed that up with another smash hit film, Ghost, also starring Whoopi Goldberg and Demi Moore. Whoopi credits Swayze for helping her earn her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for the film. His other films include "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar," which also starred Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo--all of them in drag--Point Break, Red Dawn, and Roadhouse. My favorite Patrick Swayze role was one of his lesser-know films, 1983's The Outsiders, an adaptation of an S.E. Hinton novel. The movie also starred rising young stars Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, C. Thomas Howell, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, and Tom Cruise.
After many years out of the spotlight, Swayze came back to star in the critically-acclaimed television series The Beast. The show would air for only one season as Swayze's health failed. All the while his family and friends hoped for a remission. In an op-ed piece in the Washington Post, Swayze addressed Congress on behalf of cancer supporters and asked for NIH funding for cancer research as part of the economic stimulus package. Swayze is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lisa Niemi.
Timeline of Kanye's Public Explosions
I love how everyone is shocked about Kanye's behavior last night. These people must not have been paying attention to him all these years. Remember when he said George Bush doesn't care about black people right after Hurricane Katrina? Or what about his CAPS LOCK rambling blog posts where he rips into everyone who refuses to let him be great.
In 2004 Kanye walked out of the American Music Awards when he lost out on the Best New Artist award to country singer Gretchen Wilson. He was quoted as saying "I felt like I was definitely robbed, and I refused to give any politically correct bullsh--ass comment ... I was the best new artist this year." Kanye alluded to an anti-Kanye conspiracy and vowed never to return to the AMAs.
In early 2005 Kanye staged his own death and resurrection during his performance at the Grammys to protest the media attention towards him prior to the show. He felt it was unwarranted to put him under a microscope waiting for him to explode, so he donned angel wings to show his innocence. (I know, I know.) A week before the ceremony he told MTV he would have "a real problem" if he didn't win Album of the Year for Late Registration. He said he thought voters would not choose him because he was so outspoken about George Bush's handling of the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Kanye criticized hip hop magazines Vibe and the Source for not considering his album a classic. During the interview he also compared himself to Tom Cruise (come again?) and justified his tantrums because he spent over $600,000 of his own money on the album. Since he won that year for Best Rap Album, instead of a rant he said, "A lot of people were wondering what I was going to do if I didn't win anything ... I guess we'll never know."
In 2006 'Ye stormed the stage during another act's acceptance speech when his video "Touch the Sky" lost out to theirs at the MTV European Music Awards because his video "cost a million dollars and Pamela Anderson was in it." Kanye later admitted to drinking before the tirade. (Are we seeing a trend here?)
Kanye was reportedly guzzling Hennessey (people still drink that?) straight from the bottle last night before the show. Yeezy's behavior started long before his mother Donda's untimely death. How much do you want to bet he was one of those children who threw loud public tantrums to get his way?

Beyonce's PR machine works overtime and Kanye apologized again
Lil' Mama issued an apology for her antics at the VMA's
"I did not mean any disrespect towards Jay-Z or Alicia Keys. I admire them
and look up to them as role models. 'Empire State of Mind' had my emotions
running high. In that moment I came up onstage to celebrate my two icons singing
about NY."Juicy Update: Maybe I was wrong and Lil' Mama did get a little more shine for herself than I thought. People are whispering that something went down backstage between Beyonce and Jay-Z and Jay and Lil' Mama. If you watch the video of her stagecrashing, she is mean mugging Hova and Bey. Supposedly, not only is Jay-Z having an affair with Rihanna he has been getting it in with Mama, too. (You know Jay likes those strong jawlines.) Mama got tired of all the sneaking around and dirty looks so she wanted to put it out there in Beyonce's face so there would be no mistake. I don't really believe this rumor, but I am shaking my head if this is true. He must have a a double prescription of Cialis.

Lenny Kravitz spent some time with friends recently
Serena lost it on Saturday
I think her conduct was certainly unsportsmanlike and less that what I would expect from one of the Williams sisters. They know they have always had to be better than everyone else in the sport just to be accepted and respected. I remember when other players did not want to change in the same locker room with them and complained constantly about their outfits, on court grunts, and the beads in their hair.
At the end of the day, I can understand, if not condone, Serena's outburst because the judge was incorrect. Not only did Serena lose the point on the judge's bad call, she lost another point which cost her the match. She was fined $10,000 and of course is out of the running for the title and prize money. The outburst may affect some of her endorsements and there is talk of further sanctions. All of this is a bit much considering the notorious conduct of Bobby Knight and John McEnroe. McEnroe had outbursts like this virtually every time he played.

How many of you asked your white girlfriend Susan to go see "All About Steve" at the movies this weekend and she was REALLY surprised when the movie started and everybody talked from the previews all the way to the end of the film (and the only other white people there were the ushers), how many of you took the kids to see UP for the fourth time and told them-no you ain't seein that again you'll be alone in theatre number 8, how many of you ladies had to pay off a bribe of a case Corona's, a liter and a half of Jack Daniels, 4 pizzas, a bucket of hot wangs, order NFL Ticket, and take the kids to the movies AGAIN so your man and his boys so the could watch the game on Sunday at your crib because he reluctantly took you to the movies on Saturday night, how many of you know a fine ass sista' named Frankie who goes to Spelman who swears she was an extra in this flick....
What I'm tryin' to say is Taylor Perry's, 'I Can Do Bad All By Myself' topped the boxoffice this weekend with a $24 million take. Five of the eight films of Mr. Perry's which usually open when there are slim or no new pickins at theatres have opened at number one.
